Hi Chesapeake Families!

The Division of Responsibility in Feeding is simple:

The parent or caregiver is responsible for presenting the food, when to eat it and where.
The child is responsible for whether they eat and how much.
It is your job to choose and provide regular meals and snacks for your family. You and your spouse or partner should demonstrate proper mealtime behavior and make mealtimes pleasant. Make sure that you do not cater to each child’s preferences. These behaviors will encourage a healthy mealtime environment and will let the children grow into a body that is right for them.

It is your child’s job to eat, figure out how much they will eat, and have good mealtime manners. Children learn to eat food during family mealtimes and will grow according to their own body. I know that this can seem far-fetched, but with practice, it is true!

It is important to note that the Division of Responsibility in Feeding is intended for children who do not have a diagnosed feeding disorder.

A new school year means that it’s time to consider back to school food safety. If you plan to prepare and pack a lunch or snack for your child – extra care must be taken with perishable food to prevent the growth of bacteria that can cause foodborne illness.

~World Breastfeeding Week 2022~
“Step Up for Breastfeeding-Educate and Support “

Chesapeake WIC celebrated WBW on Aug. 5, 2022, held at the Chesapeake Health Department grounds. It was such a fun, fulfilling and educational day!

Thanks to our community partners who joined and supported us:
EFNEP ( Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program), Baby Care Program, Buffalow Family and Friends Community Pantry, S&H Produce ( Farmers Market).

We had some fun activities like: Zumba, Chest Measurement to get free nursing bras. Paparazzi Jewelry which sold $5 cute accessories.
We had refreshments like: Mr. Softee- Ice cream truck, snow cones, iced coffee.

Dr. Nancy Welch, Chesapeake Health Department-Health Director, a staunch breastfeeding supporter graced the occasion with her opening remarks. She congratulated our WIC Breastfeeding Moms and talked about the benefits of breastfeeding and encouraged Pregnant Moms to breastfeed, in this time of the longest-running formula recall, breastfeeding is the best way to feed your baby!

It was worth all the sweat!
