The Academy for Global Citizenship’s mission is to empower students to positively impact their community and world beyond. Rigorous academic expectations lie at the heart of achieving this mission. As an International Baccalaureate school, AGC employs an inquiry-based curriculum that challenges each learner to construct personal meaning from concept-driven units of study. Moreover, AGC teachers design lessons and activities that prepare students to be environmentally and internationally minded by examining how their choices impact their community and the world. An AGC education also extends beyond the classroom. Organic, nutritionally balance meals, daily yoga, wellness instruction and ecologically sustainable practices throughout the school encourage learners to develop healthy and sustainable lifestyles for themselves. Ultimately, the Academy for Global Citizenship engages the whole child in an enriching educational community focused on fostering academic excellence, international awareness and environmental stewardship.

Did you hear us singing in Chicago last week? 🎶

Reggie “Guitaro” Guillaume, known worldwide for his viral Sing with Me Live videos, inspired our students, parents, and staff to raise their voice while visiting the Academy for Global Citizenship on the Southwest Side!

🦋 To say thank you, our Mariposas taught him some of their favorite tunes from across the world, as well as our beloved Butterfly Song in both English and Espanol.

Gracias, Reggie, for reminding us that music is one of the easiest ways to bring joy to others—and bring out the rockstar inside all of us.

Being a global citizen begins with honoring our roots. 🌱

As Hispanic Heritage Month approaches, AGC is proud to be a place where Spanish and English are equally valued every day.

For many of our students and families across Southwest Chicago, it is their identity.

It’s also how AGC continues to advocate for bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural competence for all.

Thank you to everyone who celebrates our dual-language environment and, in turn, contributes to a more vibrant and just world. 🌍

AGC is thrilled to announce that our Sustainability Coordinator, Ren Driscoll, has been selected for a full-ride scholarship through USDA's NextGen Scholars program to pursue a Masters of Science in Sustainable Food Systems at Arizona State University! ⭐

In addition to building and refining AGC’s sustainability initiatives and policies, much of Ren’s work has centered on supporting students to grow, cook, and connect with food.

🥗 With this grant, Ren will have the opportunity to learn how research and community-based approaches can help create more equitable, resilient and sustainable food systems.

They are especially excited to holistically explore how food, education, agriculture, sustainability, and equity intersect within school communities and bring that knowledge back to Chicago.

Each year, Chicago Public Schools honors 20 principals across the city for their vision, innovation, and commitment to educational excellence.

Today, we are proud to share that our very own Berenice Salas and Saskia Gorospe-Rombouts have been named 2026 CPS Principal Game Changers! 🌟

For more than 15 years, Berenice and Saskia have shaped the Academy for Global Citizenship—first as teachers, now as our principal team—into the passionate, purpose-driven school community it is today.

🌎 So much of AGC’s impact across Chicago stems from our shared leadership model, working side by side every day to give our students, families, and educators the most meaningful learning experience possible.

As we enter our 19th school year, we are thrilled to have another reason to celebrate two outstanding individuals who have helped AGC lead the way in reimagining education.

AGC’s first week back to school included something extra special: the first-ever student-centered Possibility Festival on our Chicago campus!

Students and educators spent two days diving into research-backed activities exploring the transformational power of curiosity and human connection.

From saying hello to a new classmate to sharing a supportive hug, we watched how the smallest moments made the biggest difference in someone’s entire day.

Hope is always happening at AGC, and after this event, we’re even more excited for all the possibility that lies ahead. 🌎

AGC was buzzing with good energy as we welcomed students back to our Chicago campus to start our 19th school year—and our first official school year as Illinois’s only Living Building! A campus built for global citizens, by global citizens.

Here's to nurturing even more joy, hope, and positive change together. 🌱

We needed this. 💚

Our first-ever AGC Wellness World gave education professionals space to slow down, with garden explorations, awe walks, sound baths, gentle movement, and more across our six-acre campus in Chicago.

No agenda to optimize. No outcomes to measure.

Just one extraordinary day to breathe, explore, and reconnect educators with their inner child before they reunite with their students in the new school year.

Self-care isn’t separate from sustainability—it’s part of it. 🌱

Thank you to everyone who participated, whether as an attendee or facilitator. We hope you feel renewed and ready for whatever comes next.
