Did you get a call claiming you missed jury duty and need to pay? Followed by a text or email with official-looking documents saying there’s a warrant out for your arrest? As alarming as these things sound, they’re a scam designed to steal your money.

“On June 10, 2026, we Unearthed a Story at the Delta Fresh Foods Farm,” Mrs. Bobbie shares. “Ms. Rose Tate along with Mrs. Tracy Williams and Ms. Evelyn Greer presented an amazing program on The Root of it All: Carrots. Mrs. Williams read the book “Tops and Bottoms” and then made carrot juice, and later Ms. Greer made carrot and raisin salad, and Ms. Tate shared raw and steamed carrots. The children enjoyed the taste test; some were thumbs up and some were thumbs down for taste. We all went outside to visit Sprout Park where you can play, move, grow, and thrive. The park had interactive education equipment for families to enjoy as well as many vegetables growing. Let’s not forget, we went back inside and cooled off with some carrot popsicles and carrot cake for dessert. What a great family place to visit to learn and have fun.”

“On June 9, 2026, we Unearthed a Story with Amanda Mayo and her expertise on the tools of the trade for Paleontology,” Mrs. Bobbie shares. “Amanda read the book “Dinosaur Lady, the Daring Discoveries of Mary Anning, the First Paleontologist,” during which she talked about and showed different tools that paleontologists use. The young scientists pretended to dig out fossils from a rock, while some of the kids dug out as many as 20 colorful fossils. What a great example of being a Paleontologist😊. We ended the program by recognizing Star Readers for the week. The James E. Robinson Memorial Star Reader Certificate and $50 gift card were presented to King Zion Williams.”

“On Saturday, June 6, 2026, we Unearthed a Story with a Songwriting Workshop for teens,” Mrs. Bobbie shared. “The program was led by musician and songwriter Alanna Mosely. The teens gathered their ideas about a song, and we all worked together to compose it. Tricia Walker stopped by and shared with us as well. Thank you, Alanna, for leading this workshop – it really showed the experience you have in songwriting. Also, thank you to Tricia for her expertise, as well.”

Have you heard about CAPTCHA scams? You know those CAPTCHA tests you sometimes are asked to do before you are allowed access to a website - the ones were you are asked to click on all the boxes with a traffic light, bridge, etc.? Now there's a scam to watch out for where you are tricked into downloading malware to your computer. “On June 4th, we Unearthed a story with Mr. John Coleman from the Alcorn Extension Program,” Mrs. Bobbie reports. “Mr. Coleman discussed the broad spectrum of Agriculture, that everything we have started with agriculture, taking us from the seed to the finished product. Mr. Coleman, a farmer, brought along sugar baby watermelon seeds for everyone to plant in a cup. Hopefully, we’ll have the biggest watermelon contest. Thank you, Mr. Coleman, for sharing the importance of growing fruits and vegetables. One we cooled off with freeze pops, we ended the program with games of musical chairs with live music played by teen volunteer E’leah Medders.”

If you’re a childcare provider, you know parents might sometimes need to arrange for childcare in a pinch. But if you get an urgent message from someone who says they need childcare and will send you a check in advance, that’s likely a scammer trying to trick you into sending them money.
