Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled on two major cases: Barbara v. Trump (birthright citizenship) and West Virginia v. B.P.J. (transgender athletes playing on gender-identifying teams). While birthright citizenship was upheld, it was determined that West Virginia did not violate Title IX or the Fourteenth Amendment, and they can divide teams by biological s*x.
CCYD is relieved to hear that birthright citizenship, a long-held and deeply American ideal, remains intact. We remain committed to protecting and standing up for our immigrant neighbors; the fight to keep them safe is not over.
However, we are immeasurably disappointed by the decision to allow teams to continue discriminating against our trans brothers and sisters. Our goal to uplift and protect the rights of our trans community persists.
