Approximately 12:15 AM today 4 Clinton volunteers responded to a fire in the Schwartz Creek boat ramp bathroom.

In an apparent act of vandalism someone placed fire wood from the parking area into the structure likely combined with some form of accelerant. A loud boom was called in from a resident. A first arriving sheriffs’ deputy controlled a potential Wildland Fire with a fire extinguisher. Sadly the bathroom is no longer available to the public.

Clinton volunteers had quite an exciting evening last night. Approximately 5 PM a young expectant mother went into labor driving from Anaconda to Missoula. She calls 911 around Beavertail to say she wants to meet Fire personnel at the Clinton Fire Station.

Two minutes later, a wildland call for a lightning strike caused fire on the mountain around Rock Creek and I 90, comes in.

Four volunteers responded. As we have mom on the floor of the fire department on a blanket with contractions 30 seconds apart, we could hear the coordination of another volunteer evaluating the fire.

Mom was quickly transferred to the ambulance and 1 volunteer went with the ambulance to Community. Bonner Station 4 was put on standby in case baby delivered between Clinton and Bonner.

The second volunteer followed the ambulance. A third volunteer monitored the Fire until DNRC arrived. The fourth volunteer stayed available with the radio in case something else was needed.

Thank you MESI, Missoula Rural and DNRC.
