🚒🚑🚔 Happy First Responders Day! 🚔🚑🚒

Today, we recognize and thank the dedicated men and women of Colchester Fire & EMS, Colchester Police, Connecticut State Police Troop K and our Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications, Inc. 911 Dispatchers for their commitment to protecting and serving our community.

Day in and day out, these first responders answer the call, often during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives. Whether responding to emergencies, providing medical care, keeping our roads safe, or protecting our neighborhoods, they demonstrate professionalism, courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the people of Colchester.

Behind every response are individuals who make sacrifices, work long hours, and put the needs of others before their own. Their dedication does not go unnoticed, and the impact they make on our community is immeasurable.

To all our first responders, thank you for everything you do, for the sacrifices you make, and for being there when our community needs you most. Colchester is a better, safer community because of your service and dedication.

Confined Space Training – Colchester Fire & EMS

Today, personnel from Colchester Fire & EMS and East Hampton Volunteer Fire Department completed our annual confined space training requirement.

The training began with a classroom review of confined space operations and safety considerations before personnel headed to the Colchester Training Facility for hands-on practical exercises.

The practical portion included a simulated confined space rescue scenario and familiarization with the equipment used during these specialized operations. This training reinforces critical skills, promotes safe operating practices, and strengthens our ability to work together during complex rescue incidents.

Colchester Fire & EMS and East Hampton, CT Volunteer Fire Dept maintain a regional confined space rescue team. Working with our mutual aid partners strengths partnerships and maximizes resources for area responses.

Ambulance 728 Officially In Service!

Colchester Fire & EMS is proud to announce that Ambulance 728 officially went into service on Monday, October 19, following the successful completion of its OEMS inspection and registration with the DMV.

This addition brings our fleet to three ambulances, strengthening our ability to maintain emergency medical coverage for our community. More than 70% of our call volume involves EMS, and over 38% of our calls occur while two or more incidents are happening simultaneously.

With 53 EMS providers, including EMRs and EMTs, our department continues to strive to meet the growing demand for emergency medical services.

Ambulance 728 features our new department color scheme, enhanced emergency lighting, updated communications technology, and improved ergonomics to support our responders in the field.

Today, our Chiefs and EMS Officers provided a tour for the First Selectman of the new rig and associated ems equipment.

A special thank you to our EMS officers for their diligence and dedication in working on the new ambulance with our vendor and bringing it into service.

****Colchester Fire & EMS bids farewell and Thanks to Lieutenant Chris Bellantone****

Today, Colchester Fire & EMS recognizes Lieutenant Chris Bellantone as he completes his final shift with the department.

Chris joined Colchester Fire & EMS in October 2020 and was promoted to Lieutenant in April 2022. In this capacity, he served as a shift officer and the department’s Health & Safety Officer, providing leadership and oversight in support of personnel safety, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness.

As Health & Safety Officer, Chris was responsible for overseeing several essential department programs, including respiratory fit testing, physicals, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documentation, SCBA maintenance, station inspections, and other health and safety initiatives. His work contributed to maintaining the safety and preparedness of our personnel and supporting the department’s ability to deliver effective emergency services to the community.

On behalf of Colchester Fire & EMS, we extend our sincere appreciation to Lt. Bellantone for his years of service, leadership, and contributions to the department and the residents of Colchester. We wish him continued success in his future endeavors as he begins the next chapter of his professional journey.
