🐾 Two Classes, One Mission: Connecting Through the Therapy Dog Unit 🐾

Albie and Maverick had a great opportunity to spend some time at the CPD Academy with the officers of the 149th Class during their week of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT).

The officers got to learn more about the Therapy Dog Unit (TDU), what we do, and how our teams can support officers and members of our community during some of life’s most difficult moments. Of course, Albie and Maverick were happy to provide a little hands-on demonstration of the therapeutic benefits of simply having a dog around. 🐶

After wrapping up at the Academy, Albie headed over to Focus Learning Academy to join the CPD Recruiting Unit. There, he met with students to introduce them to the Therapy Dog Unit and talk about the different ways TDU serves as part of the Columbus Police Department.

It was a great opportunity to showcase that our job isn’t just about responding when someone is having a difficult day. It’s also about building relationships, educating our community, and showing the next generation the many different ways a career in law enforcement can make a positive impact.

Two different audiences, two very different settings — but the same message: there’s more to policing than what happens on a call. Sometimes, it’s as simple as sitting on the floor with a dog and having a conversation. ❤️🐾 Columbus Division of Police Columbus Police Recruiting columbuspublicsafety

Albie made his way over to 16 Precinct B Co. to spend some time with the officers and, as usual, collect plenty of attention, pets, and probably a few compliments about how handsome he is. He never seems to forget that his job is to make friends wherever he goes. 🐶

He also got to spend some time with his friend Emily. Sometimes a visit from Albie doesn’t need much explanation — just a little time together, a wagging tail, and a friendly face can go a long way. We’re always grateful for the opportunity to bring a little comfort and happiness wherever he’s needed!

🐾🌙 Maverick’s Late-Night Shift! 🌙🐾

While most of Columbus was getting ready for bed, Maverick, the Columbus Police Therapy Dog, was just getting started! 🐕‍🦺💙

Tonight, Maverick stayed up late to make a special visit to our third-shift dispatchers. 📞🚔 These dedicated men and women work through the overnight hours, answering calls, sending officers where they’re needed, and helping keep our community safe.

Maverick knows that sometimes the night shift needs a little extra encouragement, a wagging tail, and a friendly face. 🐾❤️ His visit brought plenty of smiles and helped brighten up the overnight hours.

Thank you to all of our dispatchers for the important work you do—especially while the rest of us are sleeping. Maverick is always happy to stop by and remind you that you’re appreciated! 🐕‍🦺💙

Good night, Columbus… Maverick and the dispatchers have the overnight shift covered! 🌙📞🐾

Kindergarteners + Albie = a pretty great combination. 🐾📚

Albie stopped by a kindergarten classroom and quickly became the most popular student in the room. There were plenty of curious questions, gentle pets, and lots of little hands wanting a turn to say hello.

For Albie, it was basically an afternoon of getting paid in attention and belly rubs!

For the kids, it was a chance to spend some time with a dog who has a pretty important job: showing them that sometimes a few minutes with a friendly dog can make a big difference.

I think it’s safe to say Albie would happily repeat this assignment. ❤️🐶 Columbus Division of Police

Roll call visits are a pretty good excuse for Albie to make the rounds!

Albie recently stopped by 17B and Zone 4 SSI roll call, getting some time with the officers, catching up with familiar faces, and making a few new friends along the way.

These visits are about more than just bringing a dog through the door. They’re an opportunity to take a few minutes, step away from the pace of the job, and enjoy some positive interaction with the people we work alongside. Albie seems to have a pretty simple philosophy, if there’s someone around who could use a smile, he’s happy to help. 🐶

Thanks to everyone at 17B and Zone 4 SSI for welcoming Albie and giving him some time to do what he does best, bring a little positivity wherever he goes!

🐾💙 Maverick & Albie at the City of Columbus Employee Health & Benefits Fair! 💙🐾

Today, Columbus Police Therapy Dogs Maverick and Albie had the opportunity to attend the City of Columbus Employee Health and Benefits Fair!

They enjoyed meeting city employees, spreading some smiles, and showing everyone that sometimes a little four-legged support is just what you need. 🐶❤️

Maverick and Albie were happy to be there representing the Columbus Police Therapy Dog Unit and reminding everyone about the importance of health, wellness, and taking care of one another.

Thank you to the City of Columbus for inviting us to be part of such a great event! 🐾👮‍♂️💙

Two great community events, two groups of new friends, and plenty of Albie smiles along the way!

Albie spent the day at Arborfest, enjoying the opportunity to meet people, make new friends, and bring a little extra joy to the festivities.

Later, he made his way to the Enduring Minds Community Wellness Event at the VFW, where he continued connecting with the community and showing just how powerful the simple presence of a therapy dog can be.

From Arborfest to the VFW, Albie was right where he loves to be—out meeting people, making connections, and spreading some pawsitivity wherever he goes 🐶
