🐾 Two Classes, One Mission: Connecting Through the Therapy Dog Unit 🐾
Albie and Maverick had a great opportunity to spend some time at the CPD Academy with the officers of the 149th Class during their week of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT).
The officers got to learn more about the Therapy Dog Unit (TDU), what we do, and how our teams can support officers and members of our community during some of life’s most difficult moments. Of course, Albie and Maverick were happy to provide a little hands-on demonstration of the therapeutic benefits of simply having a dog around. 🐶
After wrapping up at the Academy, Albie headed over to Focus Learning Academy to join the CPD Recruiting Unit. There, he met with students to introduce them to the Therapy Dog Unit and talk about the different ways TDU serves as part of the Columbus Police Department.
It was a great opportunity to showcase that our job isn’t just about responding when someone is having a difficult day. It’s also about building relationships, educating our community, and showing the next generation the many different ways a career in law enforcement can make a positive impact.
Two different audiences, two very different settings — but the same message: there’s more to policing than what happens on a call. Sometimes, it’s as simple as sitting on the floor with a dog and having a conversation. ❤️🐾 Columbus Division of Police Columbus Police Recruiting columbuspublicsafety
