The NEAC Commissioners Benson and Thompson enjoyed connecting with residents at a neighborhood music event, engaging in meaningful conversations and sharing information about the work of the Near East Area Commission (NEAC).

Community events provide valuable opportunities to listen, learn, and strengthen relationships with neighbors while increasing awareness of resources, initiatives, and ways residents can become involved in shaping their communities.

Thank you to everyone who we have the opportunity to connect with. We look forward to continuing these conversations and building stronger, more engaged neighborhoods together! We hope to see you at the next NEAC meetings.

Congratulations are in order for two members of our Community Engagement Committee family! Please join us in celebrating Commissioner Siobhan Thompson on earning her Master of Public Administration from Franklin University, and CEC community member Dana Dorsey on earning her Master of City and Regional Planning from The Ohio State University. We are proud to have leaders who continue to invest in their communities and the work of public service, while investing in themselves. They embody community engagement.

This Memorial Day, the Near East Area Commissioners honors and remembers the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

We pause in gratitude for their courage, selflessness, and dedication. May we continue to uplift the values of unity, service, and community as we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Wishing everyone a safe and reflective Memorial Day. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

On this day 72 years ago, the US Supreme Court determined that racially segregated schools violated the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment and were, therefore, unconstitutional.

The landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka Kansas sparked a decade of civil rights reforms unlike anything our country had witnessed since the fires of Reconstruction smoldered to ashes a century before.

Sadly, many of the gains made in pursuit of access, opportunity and freedom for all people are under attack, as proven again by the Supreme Court's recent ruling on Voting Rights protections.

But America is not a country that retreats. We believe in freedom, liberty and justice for all. Temporary setbacks will become formidable setups for a better tomorrow. The spirit of Brown remains.
