🎉 Grand (Re)Opening of the Historic Tecumseh Theater 🎉

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources' Division of Mineral Resources Management was honored to celebrate the Grand (Re)Opening of the Tecumseh Theater in the Village of Shawnee on June 6th!

Thanks to funding from the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) program, this beloved historic landmark has undergone an exciting restoration—reviving a space that will once again bring arts, entertainment, and community together for the residents of Shawnee, the Little Cities of Black Diamonds microregion, and the greater Appalachian region.

The Theater officially (Re)opened with a packed house for the debut variety show “Live From Tuesday Creek,” welcoming more than 300 enthusiastic attendees.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this project possible—from project partners and contractors to community supporters who filled the theater on opening night. Your dedication helps preserve the cultural soul of the region while creating new opportunities for connection and creativity.

If you're interested in catching an upcoming performance or event, be sure to follow Tecumseh Theater • Tecumseh Commons for the latest schedule and announcements. We can’t wait to see visitors and residents alike enjoy this beautifully restored community treasure!

Monday, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Division of Mineral Resources Management (MRM) joined the City of Wellston to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Wellston RV Park—an exciting new project funded through the Abandoned Mine Land Economic Revitalization (AMLER) Program.

Through a previous AMLER investment, MRM worked alongside the City of Wellston to develop the Wellston Ballfields—now a thriving recreation hub that welcomes more than 8,000 people every weekend. With visitation continuing to grow, the new RV Park will help ensure families, athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts have a place to stay while enjoying everything Wellston has to offer.

The RV Park will help meet regional demand by:
• Providing convenient overnight lodging
• Supporting local businesses and restaurants
• Expanding recreation options tied to the ballfields and Lake Alma
• Strengthening Wellston’s regional tourism profile

We’re proud to see restored abandoned mine lands being transformed into places where people gather, play, and build community. This groundbreaking marks an important next step in Wellston’s continuing revitalization, and we’re honored to support a project that blends safety, economic development, and outdoor recreation.

Stay tuned for updates as construction continues—we look forward to seeing visitors enjoy this new space for years to come.

🎉 Congratulations to Howard “Butch” Dyer on his retirement! 🎉

Please join us in celebrating Howard “Butch” Dyer, who is retiring after nearly 10 years of dedicated public service with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Division of Mineral Resources Management. After more than 40 years spent underground in Ohio’s mining industry, Butch brought his passion for supporting miners into public service—making a seamless transition as our Mine Safety Manager and becoming an invaluable resource for inspectors and trainers across the state.

As he looks ahead, Butch is excited for a well‑earned season of relaxation, travel, family time, and plenty of fishing—including bass tournaments with his son in Ravenna every other Thursday.

Thank you, Butch, for your commitment, leadership, and the experience you’ve shared with so many. Congratulations on your retirement, and enjoy every minute of the adventure ahead! 🎣👏

🎉 Congratulations to Treva Knasel on an incredible 37+ years of public service! 🎉

Today, we celebrate the retirement of Treva Knasel, whose career at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has spanned more than 37 years—including 27 dedicated to the Division of Reclamation and now the Ohio Division of Mineral Resources Management. Through decades of change, Treva embraced new technology, supported her colleagues, and mastered roles from Telephone Operator to Environmental Specialist (earning the title of “ARP Queen” along the way!).

Her commitment, flexibility, and passion for helping others—especially through her advocacy for OCSEA members—have left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to work with her.

Treva is looking forward to a simpler life filled with travel, friends, and family… and maybe even stepping into an “ole folks’ advocate” role one day.

Please join us in thanking Treva for her service, her laughter, and her unmatched dedication. Congratulations on your well‑earned retirement, Treva! 💛
