Colored Pencil Pet Portraits (and more!) with Craftsy!

Learn to use Craftsy, available for free through the Libby app, and follow a tutorial to craft a custom portrait of your pet in this free class for teens and adults!

No experience necessary.

We will be creating a contour drawing of your cat or dog using carbon transfer paper, so please send a clear photograph of your cat to [email protected] prior to the day of the event. The photo will be cropped to a square and printed for use in the class. If you do not finish your project during the class, you're welcome to come back to the library to finish using the supplies we stock for the event.

Participants may also attend to learn general color pencil techniques to use on a subject of their choice.

We’re now officially accepting entries for our 2026 Amateur Photo Contest!

Throughout the year the Coos Bay Public Library displays the art of many community members, and this time we would like to display yours! Amateur photographers are invited to submit up to 2 photographs to compete in the 2026 patron photo contest.

This year’s theme will be “Worth a Thousand Words.” What does this mean? We want to see your pictures that tell a story. This story might be about a fun outing, a rare glimpse of wildlife, or a quirky roadside attraction – you decide. Just submit an original photograph that tells a story of a special day, place, person or animal.

Submissions will be accepted October 15 – 30, 2026.

Photos will be displayed November 2 – 30.

Judging will take place November 2 – 14.

It's time for the annual Pumpkin Painting Contest at the Coos Bay Public Library. Participants can paint a pumpkin, take a photo, and email to [email protected] by OCTOBER 29 to be entered for a prize.

Did you know October is ADHD Awareness Month? 🤔

We invite you to enjoy informative and engaging resources such as ‘The Mini ADHD Coach' by Alice Gendron or ‘ADHD is Awesome’ by Penn & Kim Holderness and meet neurodivergent community members at this month’s Autistic & ADHD Alliance meeting!

Autistic & ADHD Alliance is a monthly program for neurodivergent folks to come together to hang out and engage in parallel play. Parallel play is when people do separate activities while occupying the same space, enjoying what they like to do without trying to influence each others' behavior. Sometimes called being "alone together," parallel play is a nice way for neurodivergent people to enjoy being around other people without the pressure to hold up a conversation or perform in any way.

Conversation is allowed, but not required! This is an opportunity to recharge your batteries, read a book, make some art, or play a game in a low-pressure hangout with other neurodivergent folks. We'll have a puzzle and coloring sheets available if you don't have another activity in mind.
