What started with a little rain ended with an incredible evening of community, conversations, and smiles.

National Night Out 2026 was a huge success, and we couldn't have asked for a better turnout. While we spent the first part of the evening watching the skies, the cooler temperatures actually made it one of the most enjoyable National Night Out events we've ever had. (Our popsicle supply even lasted longer than usual!)

We want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, visited with our deputies and staff, asked questions, grabbed some Sheriff's Office swag, and helped make the evening so memorable.

A special thank you also goes out to our employees and volunteers who dedicated their time. From the setup and organization to the friendly conversations with visitors, they represented the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office with professionalism and pride.

Events like National Night Out remind us that building relationships doesn't just happen during emergencies.. it happens through conversations, handshakes, laughter, and spending time together as neighbors.

Thank you for spending part of your evening with us. We already can't wait to see everyone again next year!

Sheriff Andy Brown is saddened to announce the passing of retired Deputy Wayne Wood, age 86, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, who passed away on August 1, 2026.

Deputy Wood proudly served the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office from 1982 until his retirement in 2005. During his career, Wayne served as a Corrections Officer, Court Bailiff, and at the time of his retirement, he was assigned to the Civil Division.

Wayne was incredibly proud of his service to the Sheriff's Office. Even after retirement, he remained a familiar face, stopping by several times each year to visit old friends and former coworkers. One thing a lot of the newer employees will remember most about Wayne is that he always carried extra copies of his sheriff’s office trading cards with him, ready to hand them out to anyone he met.

Wayne left a lasting impression on the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office and held a special place in the hearts of those who had the privilege of serving alongside him. His dedication, kindness, and genuine love for the profession will not be forgotten.

Please keep Wayne's family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The family will direct memorials.

Rest in Peace, Deputy Wood. Thank you for your years of faithful service. Your watch is complete.

🚨 Just a heads up... the scammers are at it again. 🚨

We were informed that someone claiming to be me, your friendly Social Media Admin, is calling people and saying that they have missed federal court.

Please remember:

❌ We will never ask you to provide personal information, record your voice, purchase gift cards, send cryptocurrency, or resolve the matter over the phone.

If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately. If you're ever unsure whether a call is legitimate, contact the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office directly using our published non-emergency phone number.

As for me... I can guarantee I'm not calling anyone right now. I'm sitting at my desk, working on a report, and sipping on a delicious iced coffee. ☕😎

This weekend marks one of the most meaningful holidays in our nation's history. 🇺🇸

Independence Day is a time for fireworks, backyard barbecues, parades, family gatherings, and making memories with those we love. As we travel to celebrate, it's important to remember that the Fourth of July holiday is also one of the busiest and, unfortunately, one of the deadliest travel periods of the year.

Sheriff Andy Brown asks everyone to do their part to keep our roads safe.

🚔 Buckle up.
📵 Put the phone away.
🐢 Slow down.
🚫 Never drive impaired.
🚘 If your plans include alcohol, designate a sober driver.

Together, we can help ensure everyone arrives safely and returns home to the people who matter most.

From all of us at the Pottawattamie County Sheriff's Office - Iowa, we wish you a safe, happy, and memorable Independence Day! 🇺🇸🎆
