On June 7th at 18:52, Bowmans Addition VFC was dispatched for a cardiac arrest following a pediatric drowning with By-stander CPR started. Bowmans Addition arrived approximately two minutes after dispatch providing ALS and BLS care, With assistance from Bedford Rd, Allegany County DES, CFD, Law Enforcement, and Trooper 5, Sophie was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Sophie remained at Ruby Memorial for approximately two weeks, where she made a full recovery. Within a week, she was up and playing with her family — a true testament to the incredible efforts of everyone involved.

This past weekend, some of the providers who responded to the call were fortunate enough to receive a visit from Sophie and her family, reminding us of one of the many reasons we volunteer. We truly appreciate Sophie and her family taking time out of their busy schedules to come visit us.

Bowman’s Addition would also like to sincerely thank Allegany County Joint Communications, all mutual-aid departments, law enforcement agencies, and providers who responded that day. It truly takes a team effort, and we are grateful to everyone who played a role in Sophie’s care and recovery.

Unfortunately, due to the varying shift-work schedules of the volunteers involved, everyone was unable to be together for the visit. Sophie and her family stopped by Bowmans Addition on Saturday 7/18 and visited Trooper 5, along with volunteers from Bedford rd on Sunday 7/19. The photos below capture those special visits.

We are incredibly grateful to see Sophie doing so well and wish her and her family continued health and happiness! ❤️
