QUESTION: If someone uses sharps for non-contagious medical conditions like allergies or diabetes, why is it important to dispose of the medical sharps properly?
ANSWER: Community workers and the general public who may come in contact with used sharps will have no idea what it was used for. Millions of U.S. residents have hepatitis B and C, HIV, syphilis, or other contagious disease, which can be spread through a needle stick.

-Use EPA-registered insect repellent.
-Remove standing water around your home.
-Fix or replace broken window screens.
-Stay indoors during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are
most active.

West Nile virus can cause a range of symptoms, from fever
and body aches to more serious complications like swelling of
the brain or nervous system. If you were exposed to
mosquitos and develop symptoms such as high fever, severe
headache, or confusion, seek medical care right away.

NEW ILLINOIS LAW: LEAD TESTING
NEW BLOOD LEAD TESTING STANDARD ENACTED 7/1/26
◾All Illinois children must have blood lead testing completed at 12 and 24 months.
◾All Illinois children 6 years and younger must be assessed for lead exposure through a questionnaire administered by a health care provider.
◾Blood tests with results of confirmed lead levels above 3.5 micrograms per deciliter require public health response.
◾Intervention includes home inspection, lead source removal, and lead protection education.
