And just like that, our summer reading program is at the end! Thank you to everyone who participated in the final program last Tuesday. Our very own school librarian, Cindy, or as many might know her by, Mrs. P, was a big hit! She read the wonderful book, "Grandfather Tang's Story" by Ann Tompert. Such a great story! And then Cindy talked about Tangrams and what they were. Each child selected a kit of pre-cut fabric that included the seven pieces to make their own tangram design onto a canvas bag. Many chose to make a rabbit. All were so very incredible! The design was ironed onto the bags for the children to take home their very own special bag. This was also our program finale and everyone enjoyed cake! And then we raffled off the big prizes, the tote bags being the grand prize and then some other prizes as well, including a set of tickets to the movie theater and another set to the Oxford Plains Speedway and a pair of free books, one for the children and another for a teen. Congratulations for all our lucky winners!
On Wednesday we hosted our final adult program event, where we showed a movie starting at 1:00pm titled, "The Biggest Little Farm". After the movie and the popcorn, the adult prizes were raffled off to the lucky adults who participated in our adult summer reading program!
Thank you to all our participants who joined us for this summer reading program. We hope that we helped to inspire you to keep reading!
FYI: For those children and teens who participated but were unable to attend the last program or for those who did sign up for the reading program and did the reading but just weren't able to make it in during the month of July, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come into the library before the end of August so that we can give you your certificates and last prize, or caught up with your prizes. Thank you-

For our third week Children's Summer Reading Program, Ranger Jamie, a Maine State Park Ranger from Mt. Blue State Park visited us to talk bout OWLS! She read a wonderful story called "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell. Ranger Jamie then talked about what makes owls, owls. We even listened to a few different owl calls. There was also a nice stuffed Barred Owl specimen to look at. The children (along with several adults) were each given an owl pellet to look at. The kids had an exciting time examining the pellets and would call out when they found something-such as a skull! They even had informational picture sheets about the bones of common owl prey to help identify what they were looking at. So cool!
A great big Thank You to Ranger Jamie for sharing this unique experience with us! I don't think any of us will ever forget it.
P.S. If anyone out there thinks an owl pellet is owl poo-you would be wrong (just like I was). The things you learn at a library.
Join us for our final programs next week:
Tuesday July 28th: Children's Summer Reading Program 2-3pm.
Participants will be making Tangram Bags and will leave the program with a special canvas tote bag of their own. This is also the Children's & Teen's Summer Reading Finale and there will be Cake, Certificates for those who participated in the Summer Reading Program and Raffle Drawings for prizes!
Wednesday July 29th: Adult Summer Reading Program: Movie: "The Biggest Little Farm" 1-3pm. Popcorn included! Rated PG. This is an all ages event if you think your youngsters will enjoy it. This movie IS a documentary. This will also be the Adult Summer Reading Finale with Raffle prizes for those Adults who participated in the Adult Summer Reading program.
