Col. Timothy Trimailo, director of Space Systems Command’s Commercial Space Office, announced that SSC has awarded six purchase agreements as part of its Commercial Augmentation Space Reserve program to ensure space domain awareness surge capacity from commercial partners.

This demonstrates SSC’s continued focus on delivering resilient, responsive space capabilities through commercial partnerships. SSC will apply lessons from this effort as it evaluates additional commercial-integration opportunities in other mission areas as requirements mature, commercial capabilities are assessed, and appropriate approvals are obtained.

Space Force Brig. Gen Eric Zarybnisky, portfolio acquisition executive for Space Access, opened his address at LA Space Week’s Space Industry Days Oct. 21st with a discussion of the future architectural, operational, and business vision for national spaceport infrastructure. In addition to ongoing upgrades to the Eastern and Western Spaceports and Test Ranges at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Vandenberg Space Force Base, Zarybnisky included Kodiak and Wallops spaceports in his discussion, citing a need for unified launch capacity across the Nation to meet growing demand for national security, civil, and commercial launch and test operations. At Space Industry Days, Col. What does performing while transforming look like?

Lt. Gen Philip Garrant, SSC commander, shared stakeholder feedback from Space Systems Command’s 2026 score card on day 1 of Space Industry Days, October 21st in Los Angeles. The score card reflects the experience of the mission partners, industry partners, and workforce who interact with SSC every day as the command transforms to deliver today’s mission while transforming for tomorrow’s fight.

You tell us where we are helping and where we are creating friction, and we owe you a clear account of what we heard, how we measured our performance, and what we intend to change, said Garrant.

2026 Industry Wins
• More entrants into the ecosystem: increased new company accounts through USSF Front Door by 88% and exceeded small business goals for the third consecutive year.
• Faster movement through the front-end process: improved Front Door response time by 37% and increased hand-offs to government from 59% in 2025 to 92% 2026.
• More pathways from commercial engagement to mission-relevant capability: awarded 29 new other transaction agreements and facilitated $6.2 billion in commercial awards.

2027 Areas for Improvement
• Streamline commercial access to security clearance.
• Shorten award timelines.
• Increase post-award feedback.
• Provide organizational clarity.

Bridging Acquisition and Operations🤝

Early-career Space Systems Command professionals took part in a deep-dive on the operational effects of acquisition decisions.

The session was part of a week-long Operational Training Assignment hosted by SSC’s Logistics Workforce Development Team at Vandenberg Space Force Base. The participants were selected from the PALACE Acquire program for recent college graduates, run by the Air Force Civilian Service. PALACE Acquire breaks down functional silos, promotes peer-to-peer learning, and demonstrates how acquisition disciplines work together to deliver effective, affordable, and supportable capabilities.
