We are proud to honor Mr. S. Scott Gustafson as a 2026 inductee to the Schriever Wall of Honor, celebrating his 40+ year legacy in National Security Space and his role in re-invigorating the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS), a critical missile warning program known as our Nation’s “unblinking eye.”

His efforts, as part of a unified team, culminated in the successful launch and deployment of the first two SBIRS geosynchronous (GEO) satellites, GEO-1 in 2011 and GEO-2 in 2013. These launches delivered a state-of-the-art infrared capability that fundamentally reshaped global missile warning, providing unprecedented detection, tracking, and reporting capabilities to protect the U.S. and its allies. The impact of Mr. Gustafson's contributions continues to be felt today.

The SBIRS constellation has safeguarded the Nation for over 15 years, providing real-time missile warning and defense that has saved lives and strengthened deterrence.

Located in the Schriever Courtyard at Los Angeles Air Force Base, the Schriever Wall of Honor is a memorial dedicated to Gen. Bernard A. Schriever that commemorates key military and civilian pioneers in U.S. space and ballistic missile development. Each year, SSC hosts an induction ceremony to inscribe the names of select leaders whose visionary achievements helped establish and maintain American superiority in space.

🌟Schriever Wall of Honor Spotlight: Col. Ga***rd B. Green, USAF (Ret.)🌟

We are proud to honor Col. Green, USAF (Ret.) as a 2026 inductee to Space Systems Command’s Schriever Wall of Honor — a monument and celebration of visionary leadership and groundbreaking contributions to national security within space.

A pioneer in the creation, development and operation of GPS, Green’s innovative thinking and leadership helped shape GPS from its earliest architecture into the global utility relied on today.

Green developed key elements that made the system’s test program possible and a unique orbital approach that allowed test satellites to repeatedly pass over the same ground tracking station. He helped guide the transition from Space Shuttle to Delta II launches, helping achieve tri-service production approval for military user equipment and preparing the system to expand to a 24-satellite constellation.

We’ll honor Green and other 2026 inductees at our annual Schriever Wall of Honor ceremony on September 10 at the Los Angeles Air Force Base.

Boosting powerful technologies through more partnerships!

Eleven companies were selected for Strategic Funding Increases (STRATFI) through SpaceWERX and SSC. These companies proved their concepts through Small Business Innovation Research or Small Business Technology Transfer Phase II efforts and will now use their STRATFI funding to make the leap from prototype to demonstrable capability.

NASA and Space Systems Command product support managers recently came together to tackle the challenges behind keeping space missions moving, from supply chains and sustainment to the systems that support the mission long after launch.

The two-day forum included discussions on current logistics efforts and a look at how government partners are working together to strengthen space capabilities.

Launch is a team sport.

Earlier this year, a finished GPS satellite was ready to fly, but its originally assigned rocket wasn’t. Warfighters needed the satellite. What did we do? Our System Delta 80 team moved the satellite to a different rocket, recertified it, and launched it ~six weeks. The team completed a process that usually takes two years.
