We have seen communities charge fees for repeated nonemergency lift assists, but Reading, Pennsylvania, is now targeting nuisance fire alarms.

City Council unanimously approved a flat $500 fee after firefighters responded to more than 300 avoidable alarms in just three months. The previous system allowed the first false alarm free before gradually increasing charges for repeat incidents.

Officials say the goal is to push property owners to repair defective or poorly maintained alarm systems. Fees may also be appealed or waived when owners correct the problem.

🚒 WE'RE HIRING: Billing Specialist (Entry Level) 🚒

PA Fire Recovery Service, LLC has proudly supported fire departments for over 25 years — and we're growing our team in Emmaus, PA!

We're looking for a detail-oriented, organized, and customer-focused Billing Specialist to join us. No billing experience? No problem — we provide paid training. But fire service experience is required, so if you've served or worked with a fire department, we want to hear from you.

💼 What You'll Do:
✅ Prepare and issue accurate, timely invoices
✅ Review billing records and resolve discrepancies
✅ Maintain and update customer accounts
✅ Communicate with insurance companies and customers on billing questions
✅ Support general office operations (phones, email, filing, scanning)
✅ Help fire departments recover the revenue they've earned

🙋 What We're Looking For:
✔️ Fire service experience (required)
✔️ Strong attention to detail and accuracy
✔️ Solid data entry and organizational skills
✔️ Clear written and verbal communication
✔️ Comfortable multitasking in a fast-paced environment
✔️ Basic computer skills (Google Drive, email, data entry)
✔️ Prior clerical, admin, or billing experience is a plus — but not required

💰 The Details:
📍 Emmaus, PA (On-site)
💵 $18/hour
