Got to the park today and immediately noticed this beautiful Pink Rain Lily 🌸. I have been enjoying our little afternoon storms and have been thinking that I want it to rain/storm every day at 4 for 4 hours for 4 months! 😂 That would solve our drought problem.

Apparently the Pink Rain Lily agrees with me because these flowers can pop up almost overnight after a good rainstorm. One day nothing… the next day bright pink blooms everywhere like nature flipped a switch. They may look delicate, but they absolutely thrive in Florida heat and sandy soil.

Just another reminder that a little rain can bring a lot of beauty. ☔🌿

🌸 Wildflower weekend, and today’s star is the beautiful Bay Lobelia! 🌸

This tiny but mighty native wildflower is endemic to Florida and loves wet places like marshes, pond edges, and estuaries across the state. With the little bit of rain we’ve had lately, the tiny wildflowers are starting to bloom and brighten up our wetlands once again. Bay lobelia may look delicate with its small pale blue to lavender flowers, but it plays an important role in supporting pollinators like bees and butterflies. 🐝🦋

One of the coolest things about bay lobelia is that it thrives in areas that flood regularly, helping stabilize wetland habitats while adding a splash of color to the shoreline. Keep your eyes peeled on your next nature walk — this little flower is proof that some of the most amazing estuary treasures are easy to miss if you’re not looking closely! 🌿

Red Snapper season is back on!!! Enjoy your weekend! Tight lines and Happy Fishing!

“On May 21, 2026, a rogue federal judge sided with activists in an attempt to block Floridians from exercising their right to fish through the recently approved Exempted Fishing Permit (EFP) for Atlantic Red Snapper issued by NOAA Fisheries earlier this month.

As a result of this ruling, NOAA has temporarily stalled Florida‘s Atlantic Red Snapper EFP. However, the agencies stand together in opposition of this delay tactic and will continue fighting for our fishing communities.

To that end, to ensure our anglers can get out on the water as planned beginning this weekend, FWC has modified its plans that will ensure access to fishing in our state waters. Effective May 21, FWC will rescind EO 26-11. Doing so will allow for the public to carry on with their plans on the water, including the ability to catch red snapper in state waters. As authorized by Florida Administrative Code, the recreational bag limit will default to 2 red snapper per person with a 20-inch size limit and remain in effect until further notice.

As for Florida’s historic EFP, when the EFP is unfrozen and ultimately restored, FWC will issue an updated EO reestablishing the extended red snapper season, which will increase the nautical miles available for fishing. Moreover, FWC officers have been notified of the unpredictable nature of the situation and will ensure boaters are provided education within our jurisdictional waters.” FWC

Come and Take It.

🌊🦀 Week 2 of Estuary Explorers is all about the weird, muddy, and wonderful world hiding beneath our feet!

June 8th-12th our young marine scientists will dive into the world of benthic animals — the amazing critters that live on the bottom of our estuaries like crabs, worms, shrimp, and more. Campers will build their own crab trap craft, get messy with a hands-on detritus science project, and wade into the water to search for benthic animals in their natural habitat!

Did you know detritus (decaying leaves, plants, and organic material) is one of the most important parts of the estuary food web? It may look like “muck,” but it feeds countless animals and helps keep our estuaries healthy and thriving! 🌱🐟

Perfect for curious pirates and mermaids who love wildlife, science, and getting their feet wet! Spots are filling fast — come explore the estuary with us this summer! To register visit https://www.checflorida.org/summer-camp-2026-cedar-point☀️

It’s Wildlife Wednesday and it’s Florida inshore fishing time!! 🎣☀️

While we lost a lot of fishing piers to Hurricane Milton, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy our local waters. Cedar Point Environmental Park is the perfect place to wade fish for mangrove snapper, especially around the mangroves, oyster bars, and shallow grass flats where these fish love to hide.

One of the tastiest fish cruising our estuaries this time of year is the mangrove snapper! These clever fish are masters at ambushing shrimp and small baitfish, and they put up a surprisingly strong fight on light tackle.

Mangrove snapper are also incredible on the dinner table with their mild, flaky white meat. One of the best ways to cook them is simple and fresh — whole on the grill or baked with butter, garlic, lemon, and a little blackened seasoning. Add some fresh Florida veggies and you’ve got the perfect summer meal after a day on the water

💙🐟There is nothing better than the energy on Boca Grande during tarpon season… especially during the legendary World's Richest Tarpon Tournament. The excitement, the stories at the dock, the rolling silver kings in the pass, and the generations of anglers carrying on this incredible tradition make this time of year truly special. Congratulations to last night’s winners, Boca Blue, Pass Time, Double Hooks, and P**n Slayer! 🎣✨

Long before giant sportfishing yachts and modern tournaments, Boca Grande was already becoming famous for one fish… the mighty tarpon. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, anglers from around the world traveled by train to fish these waters, helping establish Boca Grande as the “Tarpon Capital of the World.”

Fishing here also helped shape the history of catch-and-release sportfishing in Florida, and today anglers continue to play a major role in tarpon conservation through research, responsible handling practices, and advocacy for healthy coastal ecosystems. These incredible fish still face threats including habitat loss, declining water quality, harmful algal blooms, and boat strikes, making conservation efforts more important than ever.

Be sure to stop in at the Boca Grande Lighthouse Museum to learn more about the rich history of Boca Grande and its world-famous tarpon fishery. And thank you to the Barrier Island Park Society for hosting last night’s green event and helping celebrate the history, culture, and conservation of this amazing fishery. 🌊
