The Englewood Fire District is a fully paid department that covers 83 square miles with 6 Fire stations. We have 60 paid Firefighter/EMTs. The department was first chartered in 1952 as a volunteer department. In 1983 Englewood Area Fire Control District was established by the Florida Legislature. Its' funding provided by non-ad valorm assessment. In February 2008 the Englewood Fire Training Center

opened. It's location 13400 Haligan Way Englewood, Fl 34223. Part time schooling is offered at the training center to become a certified firefighter. Semesters run from January through May and July through November. For more information regarding our department or school you can contact our Fire District Administration office at 941-474-3311.

🚨 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲! 𝐇𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔𝐩!🚨

We are now in the busiest stretch of hurricane season. That means it's time to check your hurricane kit, make a plan, and stay ready.

Here at Englewood Fire Department, we practice what we preach. Meet our newest team member: High Water 70 (HW70)!

This tough truck can drive through high water to help our community during storms and flooding. The Florida Fire Service gave it to us, and our mechanic, Jason Hogan, worked hard to get it up and running so it's ready when we need it.

Just like your hurricane kit, we hope we never have to use HW70. But if a storm comes our way, we'll be ready, and so should you!

B-shift Probies did drafting water supply training today!

What is "drafting"? Think of it like using a giant straw. Our engine drops a hard suction hose into a pond, canal, or swimming pool and sucks water straight up into the truck. No fire hydrant needed, just open water!

Here in Englewood, we're lucky. We've got hydrants pretty much everywhere, so we rarely have to draft in real life. But "rarely" isn't "never," and if a hydrant's ever out of service, or we're on a rural or mutual aid call, drafting could be the only way to get water on the fire. We train on it now so it's second nature for our probies (probationary firefighters with less than a year of service) before they ever need it for real.

That's the mindset behind our training: get ready for the 1%, so we're never caught off guard.

Congratulations to Capt. Kemerer, Lt. Camara and Capt. Florea for passing the promotional assessment for the Battalion Chief position.

These three outstanding officers will remain eligible to fill any vacant BC position for the next year.

Meet your newest EFD firefighters on their very first shift! Just like heading back to school, they've got:

✅ A brand new gear bag full of bunker gear (the protective coat, pants, boots, gloves, SCBA hood and mask, and helmet) ✅ Butterflies in their stomach (we've all been there!) ✅ A big first-day smile ✅ A whole "class" of firefighter family ready to show them around

No pencils or lunchboxes here, just a promise and commitment to keep Englewood safe. 🚒

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲!

On August 5th, Fire Chaplain Scott Andrews headed to Melbourne, FL for special First Responder Peer Support/Chaplain training with a group called Serving Heroes.

He worked on things like: ✅ Helping families through hard news ✅ Easing stress for first responders ✅ Solving conflict & listening better ✅ Fighting burnout

His big takeaway is that trust has to be built before it's ever needed. That means showing up now, so he's already a familiar face when someone needs him.

We're thankful to have a Chaplain who wants to be ready, just in case. Thanks for your dedication Chaplain Andrews.

𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠

Three of our officers who already answer the call when a Battalion Chief slot needs filling stepped up this week to compete for two permanent BC spots. No pressure or anything.

To keep it fair and unbiased, we brought in reinforcements: three Battalion Chiefs from Cape Coral Fire, Lehigh Acres Fire, and Iona-McGregor Fire made up our testing panel.

Huge thanks to all three departments for loaning us your BCs. It is professional courtesy at its finest. 🤝

Save the date! On Saturday, August 29, at 8:30 am, Captain Shane Williams, after 20 dedicated years with the Englewood Fire Department, will walk out at the end of his final shift.

You are invited to join us as we gather for a flag presentation and the walk-out ceremony to celebrate Captain Williams' retirement and honor his two decades of leadership, sacrifice, and commitment to EFD and the Englewood community.
