Long before it was a beloved Evansville restaurant, the building at Third and Main was home to the Washington Hotel, which opened in 1855. Over the years, the historic building housed businesses ranging from a cigar shop to a hat store.
Then, in the early 1960s, the Farmer’s Daughter opened its doors.
For nearly three decades, generations of Evansville residents gathered there for meals, making the restaurant a cherished part of downtown’s history. The restaurant closed in 1993, but the memories and the building's importance to the downtown community remain.

Tomorrow, a guest historian will unpack the secrets and stories of the shipyard that helped make history.
