A big THANK YOU to Cottonwood Elementary School for inviting North Lyon Fire to be part of their Nevada Day Celebration yesterday!

We had an awesome time visiting with the Kindergarten classes, showing off our fire engine, firefighting equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE), and talking about the importance of fire safety!

The students had some great questions, lots of enthusiasm, and plenty of excitement as they got an up-close look at what our firefighters use to keep our community safe.

We truly enjoy opportunities to connect with the youngest members of our community. Building relationships, sharing fire safety knowledge, and hopefully inspiring a few future firefighters are some of the most rewarding parts of what we do!

Thank you again to the students, teachers, and staff at Cottonwood Elementary for welcoming us. We had just as much fun as the kids did!

Last night, North Lyon Fire had the pleasure of participating in the Fernley High School Trunk-or-Treat, and what a great evening it was!

We saw so many creative and amazing Halloween costumes including an entire fridge, handed out some treats, and had the opportunity to meet and interact with some really awesome people from our community! We really enjoyed showing people around our fire engine and answering questions about firefighting and fire safety.

Events like these are about so much more than candy and costumes. They’re an opportunity for our firefighters to connect with the people we proudly serve, build relationships, and have a little fun along the way!

A huge THANK YOU to Fernley High School for inviting us to be part of the festivities, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello!

We love being part of this community, and we’re grateful for every opportunity to get out and spend time with our neighbors.

NEVADA DAY OFFICE CLOSURE

North Lyon Fire's Business Office will be closed on Thursday October 29, 2026 in observance of Nevada Day. The Business Office will re-open on Monday November 2nd, 2026 at 7:00 a.m. as regularly scheduled.

Our regular business hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. When a holiday falls on a weekend, North Lyon Fire observes the holiday on the business day immediately preceding or following the actual holiday.

The office closure does not affect our emergency response capabilities. Your North Lyon Firefighters remain on duty 24/7 to respond to all calls for service.

We want to wish everyone a safe and happy Nevada Day and Halloween!

Your North Lyon Fire crews responded to 84 calls for service over the past week, answering the call for everything from medical emergencies and traffic collisions to fires and other incidents throughout our community.

No matter the time of day, the nature of the emergency, or the challenges we face, our commitment remains the same: to serve our community with professionalism, compassion, dedication, and pride.

As we head into another busy week, we’re also looking forward to celebrating Nevada Day and Halloween!

We encourage everyone to enjoy the festivities, celebrate our great state’s history, and keep safety in mind. With plenty of little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes expected to be out and about, please slow down, stay alert, and watch for pedestrians.

If you happen to make it down to any of the events we’re at this week, please say hi! We love the opportunity to connect with our community, especially in the “non-emergency” environment.

🚨 ATTENTION 🚨

In anticipation of unfavorable weather conditions, North Lyon Fire is temporarily suspending open burning for all areas within the North Lyon County Fire Protection District, including within the City of Fernley for the following date:

- Monday October 26, 2026

This is in accordance with the terms outlined on the burn permits issued by North Lyon Fire, specifically, "This permit may be temporarily NULL AND VOID during suspension of burning by the District Fire Chief or his authorized representative."

With the predicted weather forecast for gusty winds from the US National Weather Service Reno Nevada, the Fire Chief has temporarily suspend open burning for the above-mentioned date.

Any person who violates the terms or conditions of burn permits shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and may be cited as such. The expense of responses to and suppression of any emergency incident that is the result of a violation of burn permits may be charged to the Responsible Party whose violation caused the response of equipment and personnel.

We anticipate rescinding the suspension Tuesday morning, October 27, 2026 at 0500.

You may also check the burn status on our website at www.northlyonfire.com. If the banner at the top of the page is red, it means burning is not authorized that day.

Yesterday, North Lyon Fire and Battle Born Medevac had the pleasure of welcoming members of our community to Station 61 for our Open House and the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Battle Born Medevac helicopter base!

What an incredible day of community engagement, celebrating partnerships, and recognizing the people and organizations who helped make this project a reality!

A project like this doesn't happen without the generosity, dedication, and collaboration of some truly remarkable community partners. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to those who donated their time, resources, and materials to help make the new helipad possible:

A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO FERNLEY GROCERY OUTLET!

We want to recognize Fernley Grocery Outlet for their generous donation of 50 pumpkins for children attending our Open House to take home!

While a pumpkin might seem like a small gesture, this donation meant that some children in our community who may not have otherwise had a pumpkin this Halloween were able to take one home. That kind of generosity is what makes Fernley such a special place to live, work, and serve. Thank you for helping bring a little extra Halloween joy to our youngest residents!

We also want to thank Christy and her staff at Freedom Espresso for making sure our personnel and guests were well caffeinated at the event by setting up their coffee truck in the back lot.

To everyone who attended, brought their families, explored our equipment, met our personnel, asked questions, and spent part of their Saturday with us — THANK YOU!

Events like this remind us that the fire service is about so much more than responding to emergencies. It's about building relationships, fostering trust, creating connections, and being an active part of the community we serve.

We are truly humbled and honored to serve this amazing community. The support we continue to receive is extraordinary, and we look forward to strengthening existing partnerships, building new relationships, and finding even more opportunities to connect with our residents in the years ahead.

Tomorrow is the big day at Station 61!

Please bring the family and join us for a fun-filled day celebrating the North Lyon Fire and Battle Born Medevac partnership that brought a medical helicopter base to Fernley.

The event kicks off with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the helibase, followed by fire station tours, helicopter show and tell, fire equipment displays, meet and greets with your first responders, and more!

Silver Springs Burgers and Freedom Espresso will be here as well, so come down and support some of Fernley’s amazing food/drink trucks while you’re here.

We’d love to see you here - 195 E. Main Street starting at 10 a.m.
