As we close out August and look to the week ahead, the weather looks great — a perfect opportunity to get outside and enjoy everything our community has to offer!

It was another busy week for North Lyon Fire. As always, our crews remained ready to respond whenever our community needed us.

With Burning Man travel officially underway, we also want to remind everyone traveling through our area to be safe on the road and pack your patience. Increased traffic and delays are likely, so give yourself extra time, avoid distractions, watch your speed, and please don’t take unnecessary risks trying to make up time. Getting there safely is more important than getting there quickly.

We’re grateful for the continued support of our community and proud of the career and support personnel who answer the call each and every day.

Have a safe and enjoyable week, Fernley!

There are certainly worse ways to start the day.

As the sun comes up over Fernley, our crews are on duty and ready for whatever Thursday brings. Whether it’s a medical emergency, fire, traffic collision, or simply lending a hand to someone who needs it, North Lyon Fire is here for our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We hope everyone has a safe and great Thursday; and if your morning view looks anything like this, take a moment to enjoy it!

Stay safe, Fernley!

Another busy week is in the books for North Lyon Fire. Our personnel continued responding throughout the District to 70 calls for service, including medical emergencies, fires, traffic collisions, public assists, and other calls for service - all while remaining ready to support our neighboring communities when needed.

On Saturday, North Lyon Fire also provided one Type 3 wildland engine to the Hawk Fire in Reno during the initial attack. Mutual aid is a critical part of the fire service, allowing agencies to quickly bring additional resources to an incident while maintaining coverage for their own communities.

Whether the call is here at home or assistance is needed elsewhere in the region, our personnel remain committed to answering the call and serving our community.

Thank you for your continued support of North Lyon Fire. Stay safe, Fernley!

North Lyon Fire is pleased to introduce Aaron Wilson, who was sworn in as a member of the North Lyon County Fire Protection District Board of Directors on July 9, 2026. Director Wilson was appointed to complete the remainder of the term previously held by former Director Jay Rodriguez.

Director Wilson and his wife, Michelle, are local small-business owners who are raising their family here in Fernley. He says his decision to serve on the Board came from a desire to give back to the community his family calls home. As he begins his service, his first priority is to listen and learn, gain a better understanding of the District, our personnel, and the challenges of providing emergency services to a growing community.

Looking ahead, Director Wilson hopes to help ensure North Lyon Fire is positioned for the future through responsible financial decisions, long-term planning, and continued investment in the personnel, equipment, training, staffing, and facilities necessary to serve our community. He believes the District must balance today’s needs with those Fernley and the surrounding area will face five, ten, and twenty years from now.

Director Wilson says he plans to approach his role with humility, common sense, transparency, and accessibility. Above all, he hopes his service helps leave North Lyon Fire stronger for the future while continuing to earn the trust of the residents and taxpayers we serve.

Please join us in welcoming Director Aaron Wilson to the North Lyon Fire Board of Directors!

Today marks the start of a brand-new school year, and everyone at North Lyon Fire wants to wish our Fernley students, teachers, and school staff an incredible first day!

To our students: whether you’re walking into a classroom for the very first time today, starting your final year of high school, or somewhere in between, know that your North Lyon Fire family is cheering you on. We support you, we believe in you, and we’re excited to see what you accomplish this year.

As everyone settles back into their school routines, please remember to slow down in school zones, watch for students at crosswalks and bus stops, and give school buses plenty of room. A safe school year takes all of us.

Have a great first day students and teachers! Work hard, be kind, look out for one another, and make this year a great one!

This October, our North Lyon Fire personnel will be trading in our traditional uniform shirts for pink in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - and this year, you can wear the same shirt right alongside us!

We’re making our 2026 Breast Cancer Awareness shirts available to the community for $25 each. Shirts are available in sizes Small through ###L, and orders placed by the deadline will be ready by October 1.

- ORDER DEADLINE: September 18, 2026 at noon
- COST: $25 each
- WHY: To stand together with those who are fighting breast cancer, honor those we’ve lost, and support a future where fewer families are impacted by this disease.

And this is just the beginning! All proceeds from this year’s shirt sales will roll over to 2027, when we hope to take Breast Cancer Awareness Month to another level - including plans for a full pink wrap on one of our fire engines and a community campaign benefiting the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Order forms are attached. For questions or to place an order, contact Becki at [email protected].

Our personnel will wear pink this October. We’d love to see our community wearing it with us!

At approximately 1:10 a.m. this morning, North Lyon Fire personnel responded to US 95-A near Gas Line Road for a reported head-on collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck.

While units were responding, additional callers reported that one of the vehicles had caught fire and that an occupant had safely exited the vehicle. Due to the initial reports and unknown extent of injuries, Central Lyon Fire was requested for additional resources and Battle Born Medevac was placed on an airborne standby.

North Lyon Fire personnel arrived within minutes and confirmed a collision involving a semi-truck and passenger vehicle, with the passenger vehicle on fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and began overhaul operations.

Fortunately, both drivers declined medical treatment at the scene. With no patients requiring transport, the responding air ambulance and additional mutual-aid resources were canceled.

North Lyon Fire remained on scene assisting with fire overhaul, debris and traffic hazards until the incident was turned over to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

We appreciate our regional partners who were ready to assist and the motorists who gave emergency personnel room to safely work during this early-morning incident.

It was another busy week for North Lyon Fire, and Mother Nature certainly kept things interesting! Between thunderstorms, heavy rain, gusty winds, lightning, and surprise tornado warning, our crews stayed ready to respond throughout the week.

As we head into a new week, there’s another big change happening in our community - school is almost back in session!

With students returning to classrooms later this week, please remember to slow down in school zones, watch for children walking and biking, stop for school buses when required, and give yourself a little extra time during the morning and afternoon commute.

Our personnel remain ready 24/7 to serve Fernley and the surrounding community - through wild weather, busy roads, and everything in between.

Have a safe week, Fernley!
