PEACH COUNTY ANNOUNCES PARTIAL REOPENING OF WALKER ROAD

The southern portion of Walker Road, between Highway 247C and Kay Road, is expected to reopen by noon on Friday (10/2) following ongoing cleanup efforts.

The northern section of Walker Road will remain closed for a few additional days to allow contractors to continue cleanup and related work in the area.

Motorists are encouraged to remain alert and use caution when traveling through the active work area.

Please continue to follow posted signs and avoid the closed portion of the roadway until it has been reopened.

Are you interested in serving your community? Peach County is seeking members and alternate members to serve on the Board of Equalization.

The Board of Equalization plays an important role in Georgia’s property-tax appeal process. Board members hear property-owner appeals involving matters such as property valuation, uniformity, taxability, and exemptions.

Why Serve?
- Provide an important public service to Peach County residents.
- Learn more about local government, property valuation, and the appeals process.
- Help provide property owners with fair and impartial appeal hearings.
- Serve your community as a member or alternate member of the Board.

You do not have to be a property-tax expert to serve. Training is available to help new members understand the process and responsibilities of the Board.

The University of Georgia offers an online Boards of Equalization and the Appeals Process course that is:

- Self-paced and online
- Approximately 8 hours
- No textbook required
- Designed to help Board members understand the property-tax appeals process

The $159 course cost is reimbursed for Board of Equalization service.

We have the annual millage rate setting tomorrow 9/24 and it was not what we were hoping for.

1. We had a massive increase in healthcare (we went self-funded on health insurance several years back and it appears we don't have enough employees to dilute some heavy hits we have had come in).

2. We went through state legislature this past session and secured a 10% homestead exemption (Peach County was the only one that did this). Our exemptions (tax exempt properties) are now $252,230,879 from $195,572,469.

4. Homestead property owners have their taxable homestead value locked in at 2024 valuation (every taxing entity in Peach County stayed in the homestead protection act HB 581). This made so Peach County could have that extra sales tax penny that goes 100% to paying property tax in Peach County.

5. The Floating Local Option Sales tax penny (FLOST) will have 5 month's collection taken off of your property tax bill (it brought in $2,540,928 next year it should be well over double this amount because of it being a full year collection). This will show up as a deduction on your tax bill as PTRLOST (Property Tax Relief Local Option Sales Tax).

6. This penny wipes out the increase in tax, and sets it at a net millage rate increase is -.44%. This rollback penny and the homestead exemption will hopefully keep most homesteads at same amount or less than last year. We were hoping for a full rollback.

7. There will be 2 sales tax pennys on this year's property tax bills that are rolling back Peach County (and municipal) property taxes >Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) and the new one >Floating Local Option Sales Tax (FLOST/PTRLOST)
