This morning, June 23rd, Foster Center Volunteer Fire Company answered a mutual‑aid request from Sterling, CT for a structure fire on Porter Pond Road.
Tanker 3 responded to assist on scene, providing the support and presence needed during an active incident.
We’re honored to work alongside our neighboring departments to keep our communities safe.

Zeke takes his role as Mascot of the Foster Center Volunteer Fire Company extremely seriously!
He interacted with so many people Sunday at the Foster Farmer's Market.
He LOVES children! ♡
He plays well with other dogs.
He's truly a gentle giant and he really enjoys his opportunities to socialize!

Foster Center Volunteer Fire Company Member Spotlight
🔥🚒🚑🚨Each month, we proudly introduce you to one of the dedicated members who help keep our community safe.
Our goal is to honor the hard‑working volunteers who respond during your time of need — and to shine a light on the behind‑the‑scenes heroes who keep our station running strong.

Volunteer of the Month: Firefighter David Cabrera

1. How long have you been a volunteer at FCVFC?
David will be celebrating one year of service this August — a milestone that already reflects his commitment and enthusiasm.

2. How did you get involved with FCVFC?
While searching for a place to volunteer, David came across a Facebook ad for FCVFC. He submitted his information, and soon after, Fire Chief Jason DiCarlo invited him to visit the station. The rest is history.

3. What aspects of volunteering do you find the most fulfilling?
For David, it’s simple: helping others. Knowing that his actions make a difference is what drives him.

4. Most memorable moment so far?David loved being part of station 3' annual Harvest Bingo — both the preparation for it and the fun of participating. It was a great reminder of how much joy community events bring.

5. What do you wish people knew about volunteering at FCVFC?
“There is so much to learn, and the people here are wonderful.”
David wants residents to know that FCVFC is filled with warm, supportive, dedicated volunteers who welcome anyone willing to help.

6. Professional background: David is an industrial engineer working in production operations, bringing a thoughtful, analytical mindset to everything he does.

7. What do you enjoy doing when not volunteering?
Cooking, swimming, and reading — a perfect mix of creativity, activity, and quiet time.

8. What would you tell someone interested in volunteering?
“It’s a very good place — even if you’re just helping however you can.”
David believes there’s a role at Foster Center Fire Company for everyone.

9. What do you like best about volunteering at FCVFC?
He loves that he’s always learning — and still gets that unmistakable thrill of being in the trucks.

Yesterday’s Foster Farmers Market was picture‑perfect, and your Foster Center Volunteer Fire Company showed up in full force — just like we always do for our town.

It wasn’t just about the gorgeous weather, Father's Day, or the crowd.
It was about connection. Conversations with neighbors, kids exploring Engine 3 & choosing a firefighter duck to bring home, hugging & petting Zeke, it's all of those small moments that remind us why we serve.

We’re more than emergency responders.
We’re educators, supporters, and a steady presence woven into the everyday life of Foster.

Public safety isn’t only about calls — it’s about being part of the fabric of this community in every season, town event, and every gathering.

At Station 3, community isn’t a slogan.
It’s our identity.
It’s who we are, and it’s why we show up — always.

Zeke the Fire Pup even met a new friend, Rosie, a 4 month old black lab.

💰 WHAT'S THE TRUE COST OF LOSING VOLUNTEERS?

What would happen if communities had to fully replace volunteer firefighters with paid staffing?

The cost would be enormous.

Communities could face:

• Increased taxes

• Higher operational costs

• Staffing shortages

• More strain on neighboring departments

• Potential increases in homeowner insurance costs

Volunteer firefighters save towns and residents million$ 💰 of dollars while still providing highly trained emergency response.

Most volunteers don't serve for recognition.

They serve because this community matters to them.

🚒 Volunteering doesn't just protect lives.

It helps keep emergency services sustainable for the entire community.

In communities like Foster, volunteers provide a level of service that would be extremely difficult and expensive to replace.

Every volunteer who answers a call helps protect not only lives and property, but also the future of emergency services in our town.
