Today, we recognize - a day that marks freedom delayed and a powerful reminder of the ongoing work toward equity and inclusion.

At SCI, we honor this important moment in our nation’s history and reaffirm our commitment to the dignity, value, and belonging of every person. We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a full, empowered life and be supported in a community where they belong.

As we reflect, we also recognize the importance of continuing to listen, learn, and work toward a more inclusive future for all.

🔥 Summer fun means grilling and fireworks, but safety comes first:

- Keep flammable items away from your house and check cords/outlets.

- Avoid handheld fireworks and never point them at people. Always have water nearby.

- Wash hands before handling food and don’t leave food out for more than 2 hours (or 1 hour in the heat).

- Have a fire extinguisher at home and keep kitchen items clean.

Let’s make this summer safe and delicious!

After leaving a nursing facility and returning to the community, Lameda faced complex health and life challenges. With determination, advocacy, and the right support, she continued moving forward. Today, she is healing, reconnecting with her family, and rediscovering the interests that bring her joy, including writing poetry and creating jewelry.

This Global Day of Parents, we celebrate the strength, love, and determination of parents like Shirley. 💙

When Shirley became a mother, she faced new challenges, but her focus never wavered. As she shared, “My priority is to be the best mother I can be.”

With the right support, Shirley is building a life where she can care for her daughter, regain her independence, and move forward with confidence. Today, she reminds us that parents do so much more than care, they inspire, persevere, and create brighter futures for the next generation.

At SCI, we’re proud to stand alongside parents like Shirley every step of the way.
