Fire danger is now MODERATE. Please be careful. Our vegetation is drying out fast!

~801

Due to increasing temperatures and drying vegetation, wildland fire officials with the Missoula County Fire Protection Association (MCFPA) have raised the fire danger within Missoula County to MODERATE, effective immediately. When fire danger is moderate, fires readily start in open, dry grassland and spread quickly on windy days. Residents and visitors are asked to use caution when using fire. Keep campfires small and completely extinguish them before leaving.

Outdoor burning in Missoula County remains open. This includes the General, Essential Agriculture, and Prescribed Wildland Outdoor Burning seasons. If you are planning to burn, please be aware of the conditions of not only your burn pile, but the vegetation in the surrounding area and forecasted weather. Always monitor the weather closely. After activating your permit, have an adequate supply of personnel, water, and equipment to control your burn, and do not leave it unattended until it is cold-to-the-touch. Never burn more than you can adequately handle.

Know before you go by visiting www.MCFPA.org for further local information and www.MTFireInfo.org for information on fire restrictions in place throughout the state, as well as information on current active fires and wildfire preparedness.

The 64 West and 64 East fires on I90 at Crystal Springs have forward progress stopped and a wet line in place. Crews are working on mopping up.

There is NO EVACUATION needed and Mineral County will update their messaging.

Always be prepared and let’s all be safe out there.

UPDATE 7:45pm crews are finishing up operations for the day.

A huge thank you to Superior Vol. Fire Department, Mineral County Sheriffs Office, Montana Highway Patrol, Montana Department of Transportation and Lolo National Forest.

It’s always a pleasure working with you. Thank you to MHP & MDT for watching our backs on the interstate!

MDT Scott Lowry snapped the attached photo just after fire units arrived.

Frenchtown firefighters have a lot more work to do after the incident.

This video shows firefighters cleaning hose, refilling air bottles, cleaning tools & gear, replacing gear and rehabbing all apparatus to ensure we are ready for the next call.

Again, this is after spending hours battling a residential structure fire and after working all day.

Our firefighters are dedicated to this community and maintaining the readiness to protect it!

Thank you for all of our community support!

Let’s all be safe out there!
