Today, we recognize our lone end of school year retiree, Mark D. "Clack" Claxton.

A GHS Class of 1988 graduate, enjoyed teaching at Garrett High School from 2012-2026. He taught English and Social Studies courses for thirty-three years, from 1993-2026, at both Lakeland and Garrett high schools. He also served as the Senior Class Sponsor chair and GHS Varsity Football Academic Coach, along with serving as English and Social Studies department chairs through his career.

He has also held many other extracurricular positions for many years. He is a graduate of Indiana University and has also taken numerous graduate courses in various disciplines. He will be the last of the Claxton family to be at GKB schools for the foreseeable future, as at least one Claxton family member has been a part of the Garrett school system for 80 years, since 1946.

Mark and his wife Jenifer, a 1989 GHS graduate, and their 10 cats, currently reside in Garrett. Mark hopes to be working in the music field for his post-teaching journey. He also encourages you all to enjoy your teaching years with your students and to make the most of them, as time surely flies.

A house built by students, for the community to see.

On Thursday evening, Garrett High School's Construction Trades program welcomed the public to 1005 Joanna Court for an open house showcasing the work students completed throughout the school year.

Visitors had the opportunity to tour the home, see the craftsmanship firsthand, and learn more about the skills our students are developing through hands-on, real-world experiences.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to support our students and celebrate the incredible work being done in the program.
