🐱 MISSING CAT – LAKE SHORE / BAILEY / MOHAWK / TAYLOR AREA

October 8, 2026

Heads up residents in the Lake Shore Drive, Bailey Lane, Mohawk Circle, and Taylor Street areas: A family is searching for their missing cat, who ran away shortly after being adopted.

Because he is newly adopted and unfamiliar with the area, the family is asking residents to keep an eye out for him.

He is a 3-year-old male with long gray hair, white paws, and green/yellow eyes. He is microchipped.

If you see him or believe you may have found him, please contact the Georgetown Police Department at 978-352-5700.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is a time to honor survivors, support those fighting, and remember the loved ones we’ve lost.

This month, the Georgetown Police Department is wearing pink to show our commitment to raising awareness, supporting early detection, and standing with families in our community who have been affected by breast cancer.

You’ll see pink patches, pink badges, and pink gear throughout the month....small symbols with a big message: NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE.

We encourage residents to learn more about early screening, support local families, and join the nationwide effort to increase awareness.

Never forget the strength of this community and the people who inspire us every day.

Georgetown, we’ve got a great new addition out front of the Public Safety Building!
Whittier Tech students spent a few moments yesterday installing a brand‑new Book Swap Drop Box, giving our community a simple way to share and enjoy free books. This project was designed and built by Whittier Tech students, who did an outstanding job from start to finish. Their craftsmanship, teamwork, and pride in their work were on full display as they set the box in place.

It’s a small addition that brings big community value... encouraging reading, sharing, and connection right here in town.

A huge thank‑you to the Whittier Tech team for partnering with Georgetown and contributing something meaningful to our residents.

🚧 ROADWORK / TRAFFIC ALERT 🚧

Please be advised that National Way will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, September 17, and Friday, September 18, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM for final paving operations associated with the NEUCO project.

During this work, motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through the area. Detail officers will be in place to assist with traffic control and detours.

🚛 TRUCK TRAFFIC:
Access Road will be closed during the paving operations. As a result, trucks will need to use Tenney Street as an alternate route on Thursday and Friday only.

Please plan accordingly, allow additional travel time, and follow all posted traffic signs and directions from traffic control personnel.

The Georgetown Fire and Police held a 25‑year 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony this morning at 9AM. The event was very well attended and thoughtfully organized by Chief McKay. Pilot Walter Sorenson and Chief McKay delivered excellent remarks that honored the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the first responders who answered the call on that tragic day.

Twenty-five years later, we remember September 11, 2001, and the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost that day.

We remember those who never made it home, the families forever changed, and the police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and countless others who ran toward danger to help those in need. We also remember the first responders and recovery workers who continue to suffer the lasting effects of that day.

As a law enforcement family, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to serve in their memory.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

The dog is currently safe with officers while we attempt to locate the owner. If you believe this may be your dog, or you have any information about the owner, please contact the Georgetown Police Department.

Georgetown, it’s that magical time of year again — School opens Wednesday. Get those freeloaders out of your house and back to school. 🚸🚌

🎒 A Few Important Reminders
• Extra Caution at bus stops — Kids will be everywhere.
• Slow down in school zones — Kids move unpredictably.
• Watch for buses — Flashing lights + extended stop sign = you stop. No exceptions.

🚫 No Drop Off at GMHS
There is no student drop-off allowed at GMHS. None. Zero. Zip. If you attempt it, you will meet a very polite Georgetown Police Officer giving you the “we talked about this” look.

✅ Perley is the Recommended Drop Off Location
We strongly recommend using Perley for morning drop-off. It’s safer, smoother, and significantly less likely to cause back-ups on Maple and Winter

👮 We’ll Be Out Monitoring
Officers will be watching bus routes, crosswalks, and morning traffic to help keep everyone safe. A little patience goes a long way during the first days of the school year.
