E-Bike Safety in Girdwood
There have been questions about e-bikes and what is rideable in Girdwood. The information below is taken from Anchorage Municipal Code to address Class 3 and e-motorcycle use in Girdwood parks and on trails.

Quick take:
Class 1 and 2 e-bikes are allowed on multi-use pathways and trails, unless posted otherwise.
Class 3 and e-motorcycles are NOT allowed on pathways, trails or parks.

Rules, Etiquette, Safety:
Bikes must yield to pedestrians and should be walked in high traffic zones (e.g. around the playground, tennis court, skate park area).
Make others aware when you need to pass them.

E-bikes are fast! With great speed comes great responsibility. Consider taking things slow.
Helmets, Helmets, Helmets! Helmets can reduce the risk of a head injury in a bicycle accident. Make sure you and your family have helmets that fit properly and are appropriate for the vehicle they are riding.

What trails are multi-use?
Girdwood has summer trails that are multi-use, hiking, and biking trails. Scan the QR code to see the summer trails map and check out the key to see which trails are multi-use.

Additional info:
Class 1: Pedal-assist only (no throttle), with a top assist speed of 20 mph, less than 500W
Class 2: Throttle-assisted, also limited to 20 mph, less than 500W
Class 3: Pedal-assist, more than 500W, with a top assist speed of 28 mph.
E-motorcycle is NOT an e-bike. It has pegs instead of pedals and is considered a motorcycle.

Anchorage Municipal Code addresses bicycles and motorized vehicle operation within the Municipality of Anchorage.
Code has been updated to address e-bikes and e-motorcycles on Municipal land.
For more information, review AMC Title 9 Vehicles and Traffic and Title 25, Public Land
