🌡️ EXTREME HEAT SAFETY REMINDER 🌡️
With dangerous heat and high humidity expected today, the Grandin Rural Volunteer Fire Department encourages everyone to take a few simple precautions to stay safe.
☀️ Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day—even if you don’t feel thirsty.
🌳 Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, typically between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
👒 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning if you must work outside.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle—even for a minute. Temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly in a matter of minutes.
👵 Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone with medical conditions who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
🐾 Make sure your pets have plenty of fresh water and access to shade or a cool place to rest.
⚠️ Know the signs of heat-related illness:
• Heavy sweating or no sweating
• Dizziness or confusion
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rapid pulse
• Hot, dry skin
If someone shows signs of heat stroke—confusion, loss of consciousness, or a body temperature above 103°F—call 911 immediately. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency.
Please take care of yourselves, your family, your neighbors, and your animals. A little preparation can prevent a serious emergency.
Stay safe,
Grandin Rural Volunteer Fire Department
