Middle Falls Fire Department fielded a team for the 2nd Annual Firefighters Softball Tournament, held at the Greenwich Elks Lodge!

Our first matchup was against our friends at Greenwich Fire Department. While we didn’t come away with the win, we had a great time getting out on the field, enjoying some friendly competition, and spending time with fellow firefighters.

A big thank you to everyone who came out and supported the tournament, and to the Greenwich Elks Lodge for hosting!

We may not have won this one, but we’ll be back!

On Sunday, August 2, members of the Middle Falls Fire Department proudly participated in the annual Turning Point Parade in Schuylerville.

During the parade, our department was honored and recognized for our efforts in assisting the Victory Mills Fire Department during the historic Victory Mill fire in May of last year. It was a privilege to stand alongside so many dedicated firefighters and emergency responders during that challenging incident, and we are grateful to have been recognized for the teamwork and commitment that helped protect our neighboring community.

The parade committee also took time to recognize many other fire departments and emergency services throughout the event, highlighting the strong spirit of cooperation and mutual aid that exists across the region, with Middle Falls Fire being one of the departments honored.

We would like to thank the parade organizers for the recognition and extend our appreciation to all of the fire departments, EMS agencies, law enforcement, and mutual aid partners who worked together throughout that incident. This recognition belongs to everyone who answered the call.

The Middle Falls Fire Department would like to convey our deepest condolences to the GFD and Culbertson families. “Grampy” was a staple at GFD for 54 years. A mentor to many, friend and brother firefighter to all. A true hero in the local fire service, “Grampy” always took time to share his wealth of knowledge of the fire service, whether it was running the pump on an Engine or tying a rope into knots many had not heard of. “Grampy”, rest easy, job well done.

It is with heavy hearts that the Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department announces the passing of Lifetime member George “Grampy” Culbertson, a devoted and loved member of the Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department for 54 years.

George joined the Greenwich Volunteer Fire Department in January of 1967 and dedicated more than five decades of service to protecting the Greenwich and surrounding communities.

Throughout his remarkable time with the department , Grampy served as 2nd Assistant Chief, Captain, Vice President, was an honored Lifetime Member and mentor to many young firefighters near and far. He received numerous recognitions, including Firefighter of the Year, the Medal of Merit, the Chief's Award, and the Distinguished Service Award.

Firefighting was truly a family tradition for George. His sons and grandsons proudly followed in his footsteps as members of the department. continuing the legacy of service he inspired.

George was more than a firefighter—he was a mentor, a friend, and "Grampy" to so many in and out of the department. His kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on his family, the Greenwich community, this department, and the entire firefighting community.

We extend our deepest condolences to his loving wife of 62 years Luava, the entire Culbertson family and all who had the privilege of coming across and being impacted by the man we call Grampy.

His legacy of service, leadership, and compassion will never be forgotten.

Funeral services for George will be shared when available.

đźš’ Fire Safety Standby at the Pull for Kids Fundraiser đźš’

Today, members of the Middle Falls Fire Department are on standby at the Washington County Fairgrounds alongside our partners from the Easton Volunteer Fire Company for the Pull for Kids truck and tractor pull fundraiser.

Fire safety standbys are an important part of these events. With high-performance trucks and tractors operating under heavy loads, there is always the potential for mechanical failures, fuel leaks, overheating, or fires. Having firefighters and equipment on site allows for an immediate response should an emergency occur, helping to protect participants, spectators, and event staff while minimizing any disruption.

We’re proud to work alongside our mutual aid partners to help ensure this event is as safe as it is enjoyable for everyone attending.

If you’re heading to the fairgrounds today, stop by, enjoy the pulls, support a great cause, and remember to stay hydrated as you enjoy the summer weather!

As always, we thank the organizers, volunteers, competitors, and everyone who makes this outstanding community event possible.
