Congratulations are in order for Firefighters Chuck Senecal and Matt Squires on successfully completing their BEFO (Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations) course. Their hard work and dedication over the past several months have truly paid off, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishment. Well done!

On March 31st, the Middle Falls Fire Department was dispatched on mutual aid to State Route 29 in the Cossayuna Fire District for a reported working structure fire.

Car 39, Car 3901 and ER-391 initially responded to provide station coverage for the Cossayuna Fire District but were quickly upgraded to establish a fill site on the Batten Kill River to support ongoing fire operations. Shortly after, Cossayuna Fire Command requested additional assistance for traffic control at the intersection of State Route 29 and County Route 61, which was handled by Brush-393.

While crews were committed to the Cossayuna incident, remaining members at the station were dispatched to Lark Street in the Greenwich Fire District for a second structure fire, caused by a lightning strike. Car 3902, ETA-392, and Utility-395 responded to that incident.

In total, 21 members of the Middle Falls Fire Department responded, demonstrating the continued dedication and commitment of our volunteers in protecting not only our community, but our neighboring districts as well.

The members of the Middle Falls Fire Department express our deep sorrow at the loss of Brother Mike Barron. Chief Barron was a staple in the Schuyler Hose Company and will be greatly missed. We send prayers to Mike and Julie along with their entire family. Godspeed my friend, rest easy.

Starting off another busy week, ER-391 responded to an incident and established a water supply at Mill Pond to fill tankers. In addition to the mutual aid fire in the Cossayuna district, we also handled a fire alarm activation and a medical assist this afternoon.

As always, our volunteers continue to show up and get the job done when our community needs us most.

If you’re interested in learning how you can volunteer with us, stop by the station on Tuesday nights — we’re always looking for dedicated members to join the team.

Please, be careful and keep you and your family safe during this cold weather we are having. Firefighters locally have been very busy as of late and we can’t help but think all of the recent fires were preventable.
