GREAT JOB!!! to Flotilla 3-7's own Derrick Charbonnet for his efforts to spread the word on boating safety to the kids attending the Mississippi Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum's Sea-n-Sail Adventure Camp this Summer. From boating rules, to boating safety equipment to pollution control Derrick is great at working with the kids.

Happy 87th Birthday to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. What a great bunch of people we have in Flotilla 3-7 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. If you would like to learn more about the USCG Auxiliary or the local Flotilla please let me know (either a comment below or send me a PM).

Today we celebrate 87 years of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary 🎉🛟

Since our original conception as the Coast Guard Reserve in 1939, we have stood the watch. Whether it be supporting our active duty colleagues, providing boater safety education, or keeping our waterways safe, the Auxiliary has been there and will continue to proudly do so for many years to come.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is all about supporting the active duty US Coast Guard and for the most part we are focused on boater safety. We teach Boater Safety Courses, we conduct Vessel Safety Checks, we visit local boating organizations such as marinas/harbors and boating supply stores to ensure they have safety pamphlets to pass along to boaters, we do checks of the local Aids To Navigation (ATONs) to ensure they are in place and the lights work properly, and we in Flotilla 3-7 have play an active role in US Coast aviation training by routinely taking a boat and crew out into the Mississippi Sound to recover equipment that US Coast Guard aircraft drop out of their planes during search & rescue training missions. But we are also all about strengthening the bonds of friendship among our members with various social activities. And the latest activity was this past weekend when a group of our members along with their significant others travelled to New Orleans to attend the Sail 250 event. Lots of tall ships from all over the world along with US Coast Guard and US Navy ships. Our folks got a personalized tour of the US Coast Guard Cutter "Eagle" and toured some of the other ships. To learn more about our Flotilla or for information regarding joining the US Coast Guard Auxiliary please shoot me a message and I will get back to you.

As part of our continuing mission to support the US Coast Guard and be constant champions of boating safety, Flotilla 3-7 also does on-the-water Aids to Navigation (ATON) checks. We send out a boat with some qualified ATON checkers. They survey the channel markers and other navigation markers in the Back Bay of Biloxi. They check the day marks on the way out just before sunset and then on the way back to the boat ramp they check if the lighted marks are working properly. Stay safe out on the water. Know the navigation markers and how to properly use them to know where you are.

USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 3-7 from the Mississippi Gulf Coast completed a Vessel Safety Check weekend today. Yesterday we were set up in the parking lot of the Academy Sports in D'Iberville. Today the VSC's happened at the boat ramp at the Gulfport Municipal Marina. These courtesy checks looked at many aspects of boating safety to include fire extinguishers, visual distress signals (flares), navigation lights, boat registration, personal flotation devices (PFDs), and many others. Those that met all the requirements were presented with a 2026 Vessel Safety Check sticker. A few needed to get some new flares or fire extinguishers. But better to identify those issues now...with no penalties...rather than have the US Coast Guard do a safety check on the water. 11 vessels checked...Great job by our Vessel Safety Check folks!
