Founded in 1922, the Hawthorne Police Department continues to lead the way in modern policing. With programs ranging from the nationally acclaimed “Coffee with a Cop,” to currently being one of only two Police Departments in California to have a Service Dog 24/7 ("Scottie") the department has repeatedly set the bar with its innovative approaches to community policing. With nearly 100 officers and

50 support staff serving an ever growing community of over 85,000 (home of the Beach Boys, Northrop Corporation, and more recently SpaceX), the department maintains its technical edge by being the only department in the South Bay with its own Helicopter, Electric Motorcycles, Tactical Medicine Program, Armored Rescue Vehicle, and state of the art Police Facility.

Alert SouthBay will be conducting a live Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) TEST on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

This test is part of our preparations for FIFA World Cup 26 and will help us better understand how Wireless Emergency Alerts are received throughout the region, including by international visitors / non-U.S. residents.

We are also using this opportunity to promote FIFALA26 opt-in alerts. If international visitors are unable to receive Wireless Emergency Alerts on their devices, we want to ensure there is still a reliable way to deliver emergency messages and public safety information.
