From Crayon to Creation: Bringing 2nd Grade Dreams to Life!

Imagine seeing your drawings come to life! Advanced Manufacturing students at Brenkwitz High School did just that. Students transformed 2nd graders’ sketches into custom-sewn plushies.

Students handled everything from technical pattern-making to the final stitch. The best part? Hand-delivering these creations to their delighted young "clients." This Service Learning Project didn’t just create memories, it earned our seniors the State Seal of Civic Engagement! This project was a collaboration between Ms. Lindahl at Brenkwitz and Ms.Thuvan at Cherryland Elementary.

What better place to host the City of Hayward’s annual Arbor Day event this year than a school named Treeview. Thanks to the city for donating 22 beautiful trees that will stand as tributes to our commitment to a greener, healthier planet. And an especially big thank you to the city staffers who came out to make planting fun for all the kids.

Three years ago, local dignitaries gathered on HUSD property for the groundbreaking of a new Covenant House living space for young adults facing homelessness. This weekend, Covenant House and its community of supporters celebrated the grand opening of the facility that will eventually serve up to 30 people. A nonprofit focused on young people facing homelessness and trafficking, Covenant House promises its residents respect and unconditional love through their transition to a more stable life. The facility, on Tyrrell Avenue, was made possible through collaboration of the City of Hayward, HUSD, Covenant House California, and Alameda County Supervisor Elisa Márquez.
