Thank you, Congressman Brad Schneider, for continuing to fight for gun violence prevention in Congress.

Too many families have been torn apart by gun violence, and I will not accept any effort to weaken the tools that help keep our communities safe. We must remain committed to preventing violence in all forms, which is why I – as a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force – am urging the ATF to reverse Trump proposals that undermine gun safety. No family should live with the fear of losing a loved one to gun violence.

Where: A beautiful home in Highland Park. Location will be provided to attendees prior to the event.

As we inch closer to back to school season, I want to highlight my bill, Senate Bill 191, that was passed last year. Under the law, all school buses purchased or leased after July 1, 2031 will be required to have seat belts on all seats. This was an idea brought to me by a constituent and fellow mom, and I was so glad to see it come to fruition last summer. Although it is a few years away, I am so glad that our buses will be even safer for our students on their way to and from school.

Good news out of federal court -- the assault weapons ban was upheld in federal appeals court. "The Illinois weapons ban was passed in the months following that deadly mass shooting during the Highland Park Fourth of July parade in 2022."

A U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld Illinois' assault weapons and large-capacity magazine ban, days after the U.S. Supreme Court decided it will soon take up the issue of weapon bans in a case involving Cook County.
