Our thoughts and prayers are with the Muscoda Police Department as well as the extended community. Heartfelt condolences to Katie’s family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that the Iowa County Sheriff's Office joins the Muscoda Police Department and the entire Muscoda community in mourning the unexpected passing of Officer Kate Fleischauer.

Officer Fleischauer dedicated 12 years of her life to serving and protecting others. Her passing is a tremendous loss, not only to the Muscoda Police Department, but to the entire law enforcement and emergency services family.

The Village of Muscoda is unique in that it serves a community within multiple counties, including Iowa County. Over the years, our agencies have worked side by side, assisting one another through mutual aid, responding to emergencies, and serving the people who depend on us. We are more than neighboring agencies. We are partners, colleagues, and members of the same law enforcement family.

During this incredibly difficult time, the Iowa County Sheriff's Office stands firmly beside Chief Bill Schramm, the members of the Muscoda Police Department, and the entire Village of Muscoda.

Our commitment to you is unwavering. Whether it is providing personnel, resources, assistance with daily operations, or simply being there for one another, we will do whatever we can to support your department and community in the days and weeks ahead.

When tragedy strikes one of our own, jurisdictional boundaries and county lines mean nothing. We come together, we support one another, and we make sure no agency has to navigate these difficult moments alone.

To Officer Fleischauer's family, friends, fellow officers, and everyone whose life she touched, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest easy, Officer Fleischauer. Thank you for your 12 years of dedicated service. We will stand beside those you leave behind.

Over the last couple of months, we have noticed something happening more and more at serious and tragic scenes and it needs to stop.

People are driving through these scenes while passengers hold up their phones, recording what is happening, and then posting those videos on social media.

It may not be illegal for a passenger to record, but that doesn’t make it right.

That person lying alongside the road, inside that vehicle, in a field, in a driveway, or being cared for by first responders is not content.

They are someone’s husband or wife. Dad or mom. Grandpa or grandma. Son or daughter. Brother, sister or friend.

Our first responders take great pride in providing the best care we possibly can while treating victims and their families with dignity, respect and compassion during some of the worst moments of their lives.

Now imagine being in my shoes.

Imagine walking up to a front door knowing that when it opens, you have to tell a husband, wife, parent or child that someone they love is never coming home.

Then imagine that family opening social media and seeing a video of the scene or worse, seeing their loved one recorded by someone driving by.

Plain and simple, stop.

Put the phone down. Give our responders room to work. Give the victim some dignity. Give their family the opportunity to hear the news from us not discover or see their loved ones tragedy on social media.

Before you hit record, remember:

THAT IS NOT A SCENE and THAT IS A PERSON.

Please show them the same compassion you would want shown to your own family if that was you.

This fundraiser has been in the works for awhile and they are going ahead with it tomorrow as they work through the devastating loss of one of their members. They deserve a great outpouring of support.
