Highland Storm Recovery Update for August 26:

Last night, FEMA announced that the Major Disaster Declaration requested by Governor Braun for the State of Indiana has been approved.

Additional information about the federal assistance programs is anticipated in the coming days. In the meantime, individuals in Highland who are eligible for Individual Assistance can begin the application process through FEMA by applying online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362.

As cleanup continues in Highland, weโ€™d also like to remind residents to please remove parked vehicles from the street while crews are working in your neighborhood. Our crews are currently wrapping up in the Brantwood and Meadows neighborhoods and expect to be done in the next 24 hours.

From there, crews will be moving on to White Oak Estates, followed by Lakeside. Each area is expected to take about two days, but timeframes may fluctuate depending on the amount of debris in each zone. We will provide updates along the way as more information becomes available to us.

If you have storm related repairs, please note that the Town Council passed a resolution on Monday evening to waive the permitting fees for storm related repairs. If you already paid a fee for storm related repairs, please contact Town Hall to begin the refund process.

Thank you, Highland, for your patience and resilience through this recovery.

Always be mindful that scammers often target communities after disasters. Ask for ID, verify credentials, and never pay in full upfront. Donโ€™t share personal or financial information at the door, and donโ€™t assume a logo or badge is legitimate.

Highland Storm Recovery Update for August 24:

As of this morning, the Highland Town Council has not received official confirmation from NIPSCO that all neighborhoods in Highland have power restored.

If you still do not have power and the outage is NOT related to a weatherhead issue, please email [email protected] with your address and any relevant information. We will compile these reports and share them directly with NIPSCO to help identify any remaining outages.

Please note: This request is specifically for outages that are not weatherhead-related. We have included a separate Weatherhead-Related Issues section in our recovery updates below with additional information on the process for those situations.

The Town of Highland does not have the ability to direct NIPSCO as to when or where crews respond. However, we will continue doing our best to communicate outage information, share resident reports with NIPSCO, and support residents as restoration efforts continue.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work with NIPSCO to make sure any remaining outages are identified and addressed.

Beginning today, five trucks will work in the Brantwood neighborhood and five trucks will work in the Meadows. Both neighborhoods have significant debris, so cleanup may take the full week. Cutting crews will also focus on areas south of the Cady Marsh Ditch throughout the coming week. We will provide updates for other neighborhoods as that information becomes available.

The dumpsters placed at Brantwood Park, Markley Park, and Sheppard Park are being picked up today and replaced with empty ones. Please do not put branches or vegetation in these dumpsters. Residents are also encouraged to continue bringing their garbage to Public Works, located at 8001 Kennedy Ave, for no charge.

Trash collection also returns to normal this week. Alleys have been cleared, so any resident who regularly had alley-side pickup should place their trash in the alley this week. If you lost your garbage or recycle bin during the storm and need to replace it, please contact Public Works at (219) 972-5083.

Please note that weโ€™ve shifted our 6:00PM update video schedule to Tuesday and Thursday this week. On Wednesday and Friday, we will still provide a written update like this at 10:00AM, and we will continue sharing other relevant information as it becomes available to us.
