Major General (U.S. Army, retired) Deborah Ashenhurst, Director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, will be the keynote speaker for the event.

The ceremony will conclude with a wreath laying at First Responders Park by the joint Hilliard Police-Norwich Fire Honor Guard.

We invite the Hilliard community to join us on Friday, Sept. 11, as we commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and honor and remember those lost in the attacks.

A ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at Hilliard's Station Park in Downtown Hilliard.

Major General (U.S. Army, retired) Deborah Ashenhurst, Director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, will serve as the keynote speaker for the event. A Hilliard resident, Ashenhurst served in the U.S. Army and Ohio National Guard for more than 37 years.

Following the ceremony, guests will be invited to visit First Responders Park.

🚧Main Street will be closed from about 8 to 11 a.m. for the safety of guests.

🅿️ Parking will be available in the Center Lot at Center and Wayne streets and the Madison Lot at Wayne and Madison streets.

Last night at the City Council meeting, Chief Woods presented Lifesaving Awards to two residents who helped save the life of an infant.

On July 9, the 9-month-old child began to choke at a family event at Municipal Park. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Alex Ellerhorst and Jon Banks immediately sprang into action.

Despite the stressful circumstances, Alex and Jon remained calm and administered multiple back blows to the infant, dislodging the obstruction and allowing the child to breathe again.

Their quick thinking and decisive action helped prevent what could have been a tragic outcome. When medics from the Norwich Township Fire Department arrived, the infant was alert, active, and behaving normally.

We're grateful to Jon and Alex for remaining calm under pressure and stepping in to provide lifesaving aid when it was needed most. ❤️

A special recognition for a well-deserving officer! 💙📖

Earlier this year, Officer Dustin Kaiser was honored as the recipient of the 2025-2026 American Legion Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award in recognition of his dedication and service to our community, as well as his decorated military career.

That recognition was shared with the Gary Sinise Foundation, and yesterday, Officer Kaiser received a copy of Gary Sinese's book, personally inscribed by Sinise with a handwritten note congratulating him on the honor and thanking him for his service.

Thank you to the Gary Sinise Foundation for helping make this special recognition possible, and congratulations again to Officer Kaiser on this well-deserved honor.

for school buses! Stay alert and know when to stop: On a two or three lane road - drivers on BOTH SIDES of the road must stop when a bus is dropping off or picking up students. On roads with four or more lanes – drivers traveling the opposite direction of the bus DO NOT have to stop.

🎒📚 Welcome back to school, Hilliard! As students head back to the classroom today, six of our officers are also heading back to school — as our School Resource Officers (SROs).

👮‍♀️These officers will be serving at the Hilliard City Schools three middle schools and three high schools throughout the 2026-27 school year. Two schools will welcome new SROs, while four will see some familiar faces returning.

And while SROs play an important role in preventing and responding to school-based crime, their work goes far beyond safety and security. They build relationships with students, teachers, and staff, provide support, and serve as a trusted resource for the school communities they serve.

Tomorrow is the first day of school, Hilliard! 🎒📚

As you head out in the morning, remember roads may look a little different with school buses, students walking and biking, and more traffic around our schools.

You'll also see an increased presence of police officers in and around school zones as we help everyone get where they need to go safely. 🚓

Drivers:
🚘 Slow down and stay alert in school zones.
🚶‍➡️ Watch for children who may be walking or running to catch a bus.
🚍 Be prepared for children to enter the street from behind a bus.
🚌 Give buses plenty of space and follow all traffic laws when a bus is stopped.

Students & pedestrians:
🚦 Pay attention to traffic signals and crossing guards.
🚸 Use designated crossings and choose a safe route with the fewest street crossings.
⛔ Never cross against a red light, even if you don't see traffic coming.
👕 Wear bright or reflective clothing to help drivers see you.

A new school year means new routines for everyone on the road. Slow down, stay alert and help our students get to and from school safely.

PUBLIC NOTICE

With school starting tomorrow, we wanted to share a reminder that the new Ridgewood Elementary School-Day parking regulations will take effect Tuesday, August 19, 2026, for Cameron Road and Darbyshire Drive.

Details on the parking regulations are available at the drop off and pick up area.

Parking restrictions will be in effect on school days ONLY during:
• 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
• 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

The new regulations include:
🔹 No parking on the east side of Cameron Road during designated school hours, as posted.
🔹 No parking on the south side of Darbyshire Drive from 3225 Darbyshire Drive to 3299 Darbyshire Drive during designated school hours, as posted.
🔹 No parking within intersections or designated school drop-off and pick-up zones.

Vehicles parked in violation of these regulations may be ticketed or towed.

Thank you for helping keep our students, families, and neighbors safe during busy school drop off and pick up times.
