37 years ago I became a father. It was one of the most transformative relationships I’ve ever experienced.

The bible says when Enoch became a father that “he began to walk with God.” There is something about being responsible for a helpless child’s life that humbles a man.

God is there to help those fathers that seek Him for His help today.

“To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people, is an chimerical idea, if there be sufficient virtue and intelligence in the community, it will be exercised in the selection of these men. So that we do not depend on their virtue or put confidence in our rulers, but in the people who are to choose them.”

This was James Madison’s argument to his fellow Virginians we they were asked to ratify the US Constitution in 1788.

One of the reasons our community is so desirable is because of the people in it that care for the wellbeing of their neighbors.

This was my message to The Friends of Hixson this morning when I delivered my legislative update.

The Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga is one of the bright lights in our community. Representatives from the club and students come lobby me every year in Nashville. Through this I have gotten to know Kori Atkins, who was named the
2025 Youth of the Year for the club. She is a senior at Brainerd High School and plays basketball for the Lady Panthers. I told her if she could beat me in a game of one on one I’d give her $100 just like I did when boys were growing up and we played in my driveway.

I am not going to say who won or lost. But I am $100 lighter.

Private Charles Graves is buried in the tomb of the known soldier in Rome, Ga. He gave his life for our country in the 1st world war.

After a parade in New York, attended by none other than President Harding, the plan was to lay him to rest in Arlington near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. His mother objected and had his remains brought home. There is a beautiful memorial at the Myrtle Cemetery in downtown Rome.

If not this Memorial Day, perhaps someday you can stop by and show your respect.

Religious Freedom is uniquely American and perhaps our best export. The freedom of conscience is at the core of what it means to be an American. There is a reason it is mentioned 1st in the 1st Amendment to our constitution.

I was honored this week to be on a panel discussing religious freedom with various faith leaders from our community.

Manufacturing is a key component of Chattanooga’s history and economy. Today, I toured Moon Pie Factory with Gov. Lee and Rep. Reneau. This family owned legacy company was started in 1917.

Gov. Lee is visiting companies that have a unique history in the Volunteer State as a part of his America 250 Tour. I was honored to welcome him to the best of Tennessee’s 95 counties.

Congratulations to the 2026 graduating class at Hixson High School. It was a privilege to present House Joint Resolutions signed by Governor Lee and others to Valedictorian Hiba Shahbaz and Salutatorian Kylee Am. These resolutions forever mark the historic occasion of these 2 scholars academic accomplishments.

It seems like ancient history when I received my diploma from Hixson High School in 1981.

Proud to attend the graduation celebration of Soddy Daisy High School. My oldest graduated from there 19 years ago.

Proud of my friend Ryan Jenkins, the class president. He has a bright and certain future.

One of the reasons I won my election so big last cycle was Ryan put up signs for me all over the district. He was a big part of our team. I can’t wait to watch all he does in our community and beyond.
