Want to have fun, make new friends, and contribute to a great cause this summer? We would like to provide you with that opportunity! We've partnered with UnitedHealthcare and the Houston Food Bank to provide our neighbors BRAND NEW clothes and food for their families. On Saturday, July 10th, we need you to help us make an impact in our neighbors' lives. The location is St. Timothy's Episcopal Church at 13125 Indianapolis St. Houston, Tx 77015 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers must arrive at 7 a.m. for instruction and set-up; refreshments will be provided! Volunteers commit their own number of hours. If you're interested or have any questions, please contact:

Dwayne Morrow, Jr. has devoted his career to community service in his professional roles in health care, community outreach, and education. He has extensive knowledge of nonprofit leadership, organizational structure, finance, strategic planning, and grant writing from his work with organizations like AIDS Foundation Houston, and the University of Houston. He previously served as the Executive Director of the nonprofit Individuals Providing a Positive Presence in Houston, where he oversaw community health education programs in multiple states. His charitable work has taken him all over the world to countries such as Kenya and Tanzania, where he partners with local entities in furtherance of the public good.
He comes to East Harris County Empowerment Council after recently completing an Administrative Fellowship with the Medical University of South Carolina. His proficiency for effective leadership, strategic planning, and program evaluation will be assets to EHCEC while his involvement in community outreach and his skills in staff management to promote team motivation are an ideal background for its mission. Dwayne holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler and a B.S. in Political Science from Tennessee State University. Dwayne will oversee our portfolio of community-based initiatives and services that impact thousands of individuals each year.

We are saddened by the passing of Mrs. Mamie Lewis, a resident of Barrett Station. Mrs. Lewis was 103 years old and a few days shy of her 104th birthday. She was a active participant of various East Harris County organizations, received several awards & honors and attended Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She was also a 2020 EHCEC Black History Maker and attended our programs and events. We offer our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. Please help us celebrate her life and legacy by leaving a comment below. #community #legacy
