A bittersweet moment for our Trailblazer family. 💙🧡

After four years at North Central Secondary, including serving as Dean of Instruction before becoming our Director of Academics, Ms. Shawntae Means is beginning a new chapter as she relocates to Denton, TX. Her leadership has helped drive significant academic gains across our campus, and the transformational relationships she built with students, families, and staff have left a lasting impact on our community. We are incredibly grateful for all she has given to NCS and will miss her tremendously.

At the same time, we are excited to welcome Teneiza Tibbs-Jackson as our new Director of Academics. A proud member of the NCS family for the past seven years, Ms. Tibbs-Jackson has served our students and staff in numerous leadership roles and brings a deep commitment to academic excellence and student success. We are excited to continue blazing trails under her leadership.

A strong school year starts before the first day of class.

Join us for the YES Prep Cares Back-to-School Health Fair, where families can access free vaccines, school supplies, haircuts and community resources to help students start the school year healthy, prepared and ready to learn.

Through partnerships with Texas Children's, Ogle School, First Student and others, families will have access to resources and services—all in one place.

We're also excited to welcome Commissioner Lesley Briones and Council Member Edward Pollard as we come together to support Houston families.

Families can enjoy:
• Free vaccines provided by Texas Children's
• 300 free backpacks filled with school supplies
• Free or low-cost haircuts provided by Ogle School
• Community resources and support services
• Resources from the YES Prep Special Education Department

The best day of the year did not disappoint. 💙💛

Senior Signing Day 2026, presented by ConocoPhillips, brought together YES Prep families, students, staff, alumni, donors, and supporters to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of the Class of 2026.

This year’s seniors:
✨ Earned more than 12,630+ college acceptances
✨ Surpassed $120+ MILLION in scholarships and financial aid
✨ At least one student accepted to every Ivy League university in the country

From college declarations and military commitments to performances from student dance teams and cheer groups across our campuses, the day was filled with pride, joy, and unforgettable moments.

To our seniors: thank you for showing Houston what is possible. Your hard work, resilience, and determination continue to inspire us all.

And to our families, staff, donors, and community partners — thank you for helping make moments like this possible.
