🦷 A future built around helping others smile!

Meet Reagan, a Plainfield High School student in Area 31’s Dental Assisting program and first Student Spotlight for 2026-2027! Reagan has wanted to become an orthodontist since eighth grade, and she sees Mrs. Holmes’ class as an exciting first step toward that goal.

Through collaboration, simulated work-based learning experiences, and connections with new classmates, Reagan is building her knowledge while exploring a career centered on helping others.

Outside Area 31, she stays busy as cheer team captain, a National Honor Society and DECA member, and a member of her student government’s executive board. On top of her busy schedule, she works part-time at a clothing boutique!

Her advice for future Dental Assisting students: "Build a strong foundation in science and math, especially chemistry, biology, and anatomy."

Keep giving the world reasons to smile, Reagan! 💙💚

⚖️ Bringing the criminal justice system into the classroom!

Area 31 Criminal Justice students recently had the opportunity to hear directly from prosecutors representing the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council.

Our guest speakers visited both the AM and PM classes to share their career experiences, give students a firsthand look at the role prosecutors play within the criminal justice system, and help connect what students are learning in the classroom to careers in the field.

Experiences like these are an important part of Career and Technical Education: giving students access to professionals who can answer questions, share real-world perspectives, and help them better understand where their education can take them.

🎉 Please join us in welcoming Missy to Area 31 Career Center as our new Career Coach!

For Missy, joining Area 31 is a bit of a homecoming. She grew up on the westside of Indianapolis, graduated from Ben Davis High School, and then taught Business Education at BD.

Her career has also taken her much farther from home. Missy lived in Taiwan for 12 years, where she worked at an international school and gained experience in school improvement and accreditation. That combination of classroom experience, school leadership, and a global perspective will be incredibly valuable as she helps students across the Area 31 Career District explore their interests, identify opportunities, and plan for life after high school.

Outside of school, Missy and her husband, who also works in Wayne Township, have three adult children.

We cannot wait to see Missy build relationships with students across our Career Center and partner schools. Welcome to Area 31, Missy! 👏

🔧❄️ Please join us in welcoming Kurt Maynard to Area 31 Career Center as our new HVAC-R Instructor!

Kurt brings nearly 17 years of experience in the mechanical trades, beginning his career as an installer apprentice and going on to work in HVAC maintenance, commercial plumbing, refrigeration, service supervision, and technical training. Most recently, he served as a Hydronics Technical Lead with UA Local 440.

As a licensed Plumbing/HVAC Contractor, Kurt has also owned his own company and has trained hundreds of apprentices throughout his career. For him, one of the most rewarding parts of working in the trades has been watching those apprentices grow into skilled, confident professionals.

That passion for teaching is exactly what brought him to Area 31. We are SO excited for Kurt to bring his industry experience into the classroom and help prepare the next generation of HVAC-R professionals.

Outside of work, Kurt enjoys oil painting, tabletop games, and spending time with his wife and four children.

💊 Please join us in welcoming Liz Mathieu to Area 31 Career Center as she joins the Pharmacy Tech team!

Liz brings nearly 12 years of experience in the pharmacy industry, beginning her career as a pharmacist assistant while still in high school before becoming a pharmacy technician in college. Her experience spans both retail and hospital settings, and has spent the past two years teaching the Pharmacy Technician program in the evening for Wayne Township Adult Education.

This semester, Liz will be teaching Pharmacy Calculations and Pharmacology I to our first-year students. She is especially excited to work with students who are getting an early start on their college and career journeys and helping them build skills they can carry into the workforce for years to come.

Outside of the classroom, she enjoys playing board games with her husband and spending time with their two cats.

We are so excited to have Liz bring her pharmacy experience, creativity, and passion for teaching to the Vincennes University Early College team. Welcome to Area 31! 👏

Following the retirement of the program’s founding instructor, Mr. Dennis Goins, new TV Broadcasting instructor Mr. Joseph French has hit the ground running.
