Competing at SkillsUSA Nationals is an achievement few students ever experience, and our competitors proudly represented their schools, communities, and Indiana on the national stage.

Representing Area 31 were:

🔹 Katelyn Cox, Monrovia HS – Career Pathway: Health Science
🔹 Avery App, Monrovia HS – Career Pathway: Health Science
🔹 Nilsa Arias, Speedway HS – Career Pathway: Health Science
🔹 Vivi Nguyen, Avon HS – Dental Assisting
🔹 Zemirah Camper, Ben Davis HS – Internet of Things (IoT) Smart Home
🔹 Onaopemipo Orire, Ben Davis HS – Medical Math
🔹 Alton Rodriguez, Ben Davis HS – Automotive Refinishing Technology
🔹 Kevin Sandoval-Alanis, Ben Davis HS – Collision Repair Technology

While we did not bring home national medals this year, earning the opportunity to compete at Nationals is an accomplishment in itself.

We’re also incredibly proud of Jayleen Juarez, whose campaign for a SkillsUSA National Officer position marked a historic milestone for Area 31.

Throughout the week, Allison Rodriguez represented Area 31 and the State of Indiana as a SkillsUSA State Officer!

A special thank you to advisors Ryann Camden, Danny Camden, and Andy Holmes for their dedication, guidance, and support throughout the year. Thank you for keeping our students safe and providing them a once in a lifetime experience at nationals!

Congratulations to all of our competitors, student leaders, and advisors. We are proud of the way you represented Area 31!

And THIS is why we do what we do. 💙💚

The skills we teach matter. The credentials matter. The opportunities matter.

But the relationships? They last a lifetime.

Mr. Goins helped a student discover her passion, and years later Alia is still celebrating the impact he had on her life.

Education is hard work, but stories like this remind us why it’s worth it.

And that’s a wrap on the 2025-2026 school year. 🎬

Today marked the final teacher day at Area 31, bringing another incredible year of career and technical education to a close.

Over the past 10 months, students earned industry certifications, college credit, work-based learning experiences, awards, scholarships, and memories that will last a lifetime. More importantly, they gained the skills and confidence to take their next steps toward college, careers, military service, and beyond.

To our students, families, teachers, staff, business partners, and sending schools: thank you for making this year one to remember. 💙💚

But we’re not quite finished yet…

Tomorrow, we’ll be cheering on the 7 students at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference Closing Ceremony as they learn the results of their national competitions. We’ll also be eagerly awaiting the outcome of Jayleen Juarez’s campaign for SkillsUSA National Officer, which is already a historic achievement for Area 31.

One more day = one more chance to celebrate student excellence.

Stay tuned…. 🥹🤞

Area 31 is proud to recognize Jayleen Juarez, a Cybersecurity & Networking student from Ben Davis High School, as she campaigns for the SkillsUSA National Officer position of Region 3 Vice President!

This is a historic moment for Area 31, as Jayleen is the first Area 31 student to make it this far in the National Officer Election Process and actively campaign for the role.

Jayleen’s goal is to give CTE students a stronger voice in SkillsUSA and the workforce while helping close the skills gap through career and technical education. Her leadership reaches far beyond the classroom. This year alone, Jayleen has been involved in Indiana University Luddy Tech Quest, where she won first place on an all-female team; Robotics, where she helped lead her team to a victory in March; DECA, where she qualified for State; Spell Bowl, where her team placed 5th in the State; orchestra, tennis, theatre, and more!

Jayleen’s drive, leadership, and commitment to excellence represent the very best of Career and Technical Education. We are excited to cheer her on as she continues to represent Area 31, Ben Davis, Indiana, and SkillsUSA on a national stage.

We are proud of you, Jayleen!

The first few days at the SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference in Atlanta have been filled with new experiences, professional growth, and plenty of memories for our Area 31 students and advisors!

Since arriving Monday, students have traveled through Atlanta, attended the Indiana State Dinner, participated in orientation meetings, explored the SkillsUSA Store, and connected with competitors from across the country. One of the highlights so far was seeing Jayleen’s national officer candidacy officially announced! We’ll have more on that later today! 😃

Tuesday began formal competition, with former champion of the Indy 500, Josef Newgarden, kicking off NLSC 2026 as the keynote speaker in the opening session. Students have been networking with SkillsUSA members from Indiana, Maine, and beyond while preparing for their upcoming competitions.

We’re proud of how our students are representing Area 31, their home schools, and Indiana on the national stage. Good luck to all of our competitors as contest week continues!

Congratulations to Brownsburg senior, Ryan Johnson, on earning his Certificate of Program Completion through Vincennes University and taking the next step toward a career in cybersecurity with the United States Marines!

Moments like these are what is all about: students setting ambitious goals, developing real-world skills, and turning their plans into reality.

This achievement also serves as a fitting reflection of the impact Area 31 Cybersecurity Instructor Karen Diggs has had throughout her career at both Main and Harris Campuses. Karen encouraged Jon to stick with the program, and seeing him reach this milestone is a reminder of the countless students she has supported over the years.

As Karen retires (again!), we celebrate a career dedicated to education and student success. From her time at Fulton Junior High (now Chapel Hill 7th & 8th Grade Center) and North West Hendricks School Corporation, to Area 31 Main Campus and Harris Campus, Karen has spent decades helping students discover their potential and pursue their futures.

Whether in the classroom or performing with the Indianapolis Municipal Band, Karen has always shared her talents with others. Thank you, Karen, for the difference you've made in the lives of so many students. We wish you all the best in retirement and congratulate Ryan on this exciting next chapter.

The culminating event highlighted student growth in cosmetology, hairstyling, makeup artistry, and fashion presentation while giving students the opportunity to demonstrate the techniques and creativity they have developed throughout the year. Family members, staff, and guests enjoyed an impressive showcase of hard work, confidence, and collaboration.

Today, Area 31 celebrates the retirement of Joyce Enlow, Administrative Assistant to the Director of Area 31 Career Programs.

Joyce has served the MSD of Wayne Township for over thirty years, with twenty-six years as the full-time administrative assistant to the Director of Area 31 Career Programs. A proud Ben Davis graduate, Joyce’s connection to Wayne and Area 31 runs deep. In fact, the person who held this position from 1976-1987 was her mom, Peggy Short Blake, making her service here part of a very special family legacy.

While Joyce has never been someone who seeks the spotlight, her impact is impossible to miss. For more than three decades, she has supported staff, students, families, and programs with steady dedication, kindness, and care. So much of the work behind the scenes at Area 31 bears Joyce’s fingerprints, and our school is better because of her.

Joyce, thank you for your years of service, your loyalty to Area 31 and Wayne Township, and the many ways you have helped our career center serve students and families. We wish you the very best in retirement. You have certainly earned it. 💙

Special thanks to former Area 31 Director, Ron Hoke, for bringing in a photo collage that Joyce had created for his retirement 11 years prior. It was wonderful to relive moments in our shared history.

Area 31 Culinary Arts students recently partnered with Ben Davis Thrive students for a special co-curricular event focused on formal dining etiquette and real-world learning experiences.

Students in Ms. Garrett’s Thrive class have been practicing formal dining skills throughout the year, and this culminating event provided the opportunity to apply those skills in our dining room while enjoying a meal prepared and served by our Culinary Arts students.

It was an impressive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved and a great example of collaboration, inclusion, and student growth. We are proud of all of the students for their professionalism and participation throughout the event.

Thank you to Ms. Garrett for the incredible support you provide to your students and for including our Culinary Arts program in this meaningful experience!
