Ya’akub Ira, a photojournalist and DACA recipient from Dallas, Texas, was targeted and detained by ICE in October 2025. He has been in detention for one year now for exercising his free speech, posting on social media in support of Palestine.

Now, he is held in Folkston ICE Processing Center, a fifteen hour drive from his home, community, and loved ones. While Ya’akub has been granted a habeas trial, the fight does not end here! We want Ya’akub free NOW! ONE YEAR OF ILLEGAL DETENTION IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Despite concern from residents of Jacksonville, City Council approved the budget with no revision to the whopping $1.07 Billion allocated to Jacksonville Sherrif’s Office! This amount makes up over HALF of the entire budget. We must ask, how will JSO use these funds? To continue over policing and violence in Black neighborhoods? To continue acting as ICE agents in our streets under their 287g agreement, possibly with new weapons?

We say NO to this! We want a People’s Budget now, no more funding for bloated police budgets, and an END to JSO’s 287g agreement with ICE.

A pesar de la preocupación de los vecinos de Jacksonville, el Consejo Municipal ha aprobado el presupuesto sin modificar la astronómica cifra de 1.07 mil millones de dólares asignada a la Oficina del Sheriff de Jacksonville (JSO). Esta cantidad supone más de la MITAD del presupuesto total. FREE OUR PEOPLE! FREE THEM ALL!

📣 Last Saturday, community members from JIRA and Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance joined forces at Olustee Battlefield State Park and marched to Baker Cruelty Camp where they stood in the hard pouring rain to make their stance clear as part of the Legalization For All weekend of action against the mid-term Republican National Convention in Texas

✊🏾 They heard detainees cheer as they protested against their oppressors, inspiring some hope in those who want nothing but freedom.

📣 El sábado pasado, miembros de la comunidad de JIRA y Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance unieron fuerzas en Oluste Battlefield State Park y marcharon al Campamento de Crueldad Baker donde permanecieron de pie bajo una lluvia torrencial para dejar clara su postura, como parte del fin de semana de acción de Legalization For All contra la Convención Nacional Republicana de mitad de legislatura celebrada en Texas

📊 Budget season is upon us, and that’s why we’re putting the pressure on city council about where we want our tax money to go–and where NOT.

💸 The upcoming budget is slated to increase funding to the Jacksonville Sherrif’s Office. We must fight back against the increasing militarization of our police force with new technologies of violence and surveillance.

📣 Are you sick of our city budget overfunding JSO to terrorize our community? Do you want less surveillance, not more? Would you rather our tax money be allocated in service of the public good?

🙅🏽‍♀️Join JIRA and JCAC in demanding a budget that truly serves the people! A people’s budget, now! We believe the proposed budget increase for JSO should be put into services our community truly needs. We further demand an end to JSO’s 287(g) agreement which deputizes police to act as immigration enforcement.

We have learned of multiple accounts from people inside Baker Cruelty Camp in Sanderson, FL that a man died *Wednesday, September 9th after being denied insulin which led to cardiac arrest. While these reports have not been independently verified, the facility has said nothing and and this death follows months of reports from inside Baker about medical neglect, denial of care, and conditions so inhumane that approximately 50 detainees launched a hunger strike at the end of August.

If you want answers as to what is going on inside this camp, if you want to see Baker Cruelty Camp shut down, then join us for our car caravan this Saturday, September 12th. We will be meeting at 12pm at 72 W. 48th St.

¡Los detenidos del centro de detención de Baker, en Sanderson, FL, están en huelga de hambre! Lee el comunicado completo de solidaridad que aparece más arriba y ÚNETE A NOSOTROS el sábado 12 de septiembre para participar en una caravana y una concentración en apoyo a los huelguistas de hambre.

JIRA apoya a los huelguistas de hambre de Baker y exige:
(1) comida de calidad y nutritiva para todos los detenidos
(2) que se preste asistencia médica a todos los detenidos y se proporcione la atención adecuada a los detenidos con discapacidad
(3) la liberación inmediata de todos los inmigrantes detenidos
(4) el cierre definitivo de este campo de concentración inhumano.
