The Historic Jersey City & Harsimus Cemetery, founded in 1829, is a National Treasure and is the resting place of soldiers from the Revolutionary & Civil Wars, the War of 1812, the Spanish-American War, WWI & II and Jersey City founders & legends. With no regular revenue, the site is operated on contributions and events that promote history, music, art, education & culture for children & adults. Check out the work our intern Mya and volunteers are doing! Lifting up fallen graves is hard work and is so satisfying when they are unearthed and cleaned so the person can be properly honored.
Mya is here doing an internship of behalf of Jersey City and doing an amazing job. This is an unconventional internship to say the least! Mya is not only cleaning graves but helping plant flowers in our monarch garden, working on social media, helping tend to the goats, etc. The jobs here are incredibly diverse and she’s up to the task and we couldn’t be more proud. Hey Jersey Birds and other flying friends.

Looking to beat the heat ? Come enjoy one of our bird baths and get a bite to eat at our seed buffet. You can also make a night of it and stay in our bird house. No reservations are required. If the gates our closed, don't worry we know you have wings :)
