Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/Paramedic Brian Hissong on being named the 2025 Kettering Fire Department Firefighter of the Year!

Brian joined the department in 2016 and has spent nearly a decade setting the standard for professionalism, leadership, and dedication. Nominated by two Captains, his nomination reads in part: "He does not just perform his duties; he raises the standard for everyone around him."

Throughout 2025, Brian was actively involved in Air Room Tech, Peer Support, Wellness and Fitness, Training, Pre-Plans, Public Education and serving as IAFF Secretary. He also received multiple Lifesaving Awards and four letters of appreciation throughout the year.

Brian, this recognition is truly well-deserved.

Congratulations on an outstanding year and thank you for everything you bring to the Kettering Fire Department and our community every single day!

On January 24, crews from Ladder 32 and Medic 32 responded to a report of an unconscious person, which was upgraded to a full cardiac arrest response while en route. Upon arrival, a 40-year-old female who had collapsed on her front porch was being attended to by Kettering Police Department officers. Our crews quickly assumed care, initiated CPR, deployed the Lucas Chest Compression System and followed Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols. She was transported to the emergency department and recovered fully, being discharged home on February 8. Their rapid recognition and coordinated efforts made all the difference. Well done to all involved!

This week, the Kettering Fire Department teamed up with the Kettering Police Department for vital, hands-on Rescue Task Force (RTF) training. A Rescue Task Force places armed police officers and fire/EMS personnel into a coordinated team. This setup allows paramedics to quickly enter secure areas during active-threat situations. By treating and stabilizing victims immediately, we can save lives faster when every second counts.

A huge thank you to the Dayton Fire Department and the Washington Township Fire Department for sending crews to train alongside us. Your collaboration strengthens our regional emergency response. We also want to give a massive shoutout to all the incredible volunteers who braved the heat to act as victims. Your realistic portrayals made this critical training successful!
