As a reminder, the City of Kettering tests its outdoor warning sirens on the first Monday of every month at noon. This routine test ensures our sirens are functioning properly and ready to alert residents in the event of a real emergency. Please note that if inclement weather is present in the area at the time of the scheduled test, the test will be postponed. We encourage all residents to use these monthly reminders as an opportunity to review your severe weather preparedness plan so that you and your family know exactly what to do when it matters most.

An arcing power line is a serious, life-threatening emergency. Do not wait to see if the sparking stops or the power goes out. Treat it as an active emergency and call AES at 1-800-433-8500 immediately. You can also report issues on the AES website at https://www.aes-ohio.com/contact-us as well as outages here https://myprofile.aes-ohio.com/WebOutage/Default.aspx?t=RO.

Call AES right away if you see or hear any of the following:

* Continuous sparking or bright blue, green or yellow flashes with snapping, buzzing or popping sounds
* A downed line touching the ground, a fence, a vehicle or standing water
* A tree limb or branch actively sparking, smoking or on fire where it contacts a line
* A damaged or leaning utility pole with dangling or low-hanging wires

While you wait for help, stay safe:

* Keep at least 30 to 50 feet away. Electricity can travel through the ground and energize nearby fences and puddles.
* If a line falls on a vehicle, stay away. If you are inside, stay put unless the car catches fire. If it does, jump clear without touching the car and ground at the same time, land with feet together and hop away.
* Never assume a quiet line is safe. A power line does not have to be sparking or moving to be fully energized and deadly.

When you call, provide your exact location, nearest cross streets and whether there is an immediate fire or injury hazard.

Your safety is always the priority. When in doubt, stay back and call for help.

Our Cross Safe, Kettering campaign is all about looking out for one another, and we put that into action with a short safety video we think you will want to see. Crosswalks exist for a reason, and when drivers and pedestrians work together, we all get home safely.

We are so grateful to the people who made this video possible, including our Mayor, our talented Kettering student actors, our Safety Supervisor and our School Resource Officers.

Take a few minutes to watch, and if it resonates with you, pass it along. A simple share could make a real difference.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

The Scoreboard:
• Ducklings Rescued: 8
• Officers & Firefighters Traumatized: 4
• Mama Duck’s Street Cred: Infinite

Proof that no amount of academy training can prepare you for a protective mother with zero respect for the badge. Thank you for your service, heroes... and watch your backs!
