Since 1969, located in Crandon Park, Key Biscayne, FL, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center has been reaching thousands of children and adults each year with environmental education programs. Overlooking the dunes and ocean, the Biscayne Nature Center is a beautiful facility on the north end of Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. In this pristine setting, our multifunctional Center serves our visitors with a reception area, exhibit space, gift shop, an audio visual presentation room and demonstration lab classroom facilities. And right outside our doors, we are fortunate to have Mother Nature's spectacular classroom, which we proudly care for and share with our visitors. is a not-for-profit Florida corporation whose interest is in the conservation of our local irreplaceable natural resources.

Meet the red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle)! 🌿

Found throughout South Florida’s coastal ecosystems, including Bear Cut Preserve, red mangroves play an essential role in protecting our shorelines and supporting marine biodiversity.

Their distinctive prop roots help reduce erosion while creating sheltered nursery habitats for fish, crabs, and other marine life.

Next time you’re exploring Bear Cut Preserve, keep an eye out for these incredible coastal protectors!

Miami Plein Aire 2026

A look back at the opening of the inaugural Miami Plein Aire Exhibition!

The exhibition celebrates the art of painting en plein air—creating outdoors, directly from the landscape, and capturing the light, atmosphere, and character of a place in the moment. We loved welcoming artists and our community to the Biscayne Nature Center to celebrate the incredible scenes captured throughout South Florida.

We are thrilled to invite you to a landmark cultural event in our community: Miami Plein Aire’s inaugural Quick Draw competition at Crandon Park.

A “Quick Draw” is a dynamic, live art event where painters set up their easels outdoors and are given a strict two-hour time limit to paint a complete scene from start to finish. Spectators are encouraged to wander through the park, interact with the artists, and observe the creative process unfold in real time.

At the end of the session, artists will bring their completed works to the Biscayne Nature Center for awards judging, viewing and purchase. This is a rare opportunity to collect original, freshly painted pieces that capture the unique light and spirit of Key Biscayne.

Bring your family, support local artists, and witness Crandon Park through a brand-new lens! We look forward to welcoming you on Saturday, October 10th, 2026; artists will paint from 10am-12noon and all artworks will be made available for purchase from 12:30-1:30pm.
