American Veterans Mission joins the City of Harker Heights and the Central Texas community in mourning the passing of Jean Shine.

Jean’s life reflected an extraordinary commitment to service. Her dedication to soldiers, veterans, military families, education, civic leadership, and the broader Central Texas community left a lasting impact that will continue well beyond her lifetime.

Her leadership helped strengthen important causes and institutions, and her commitment to serving others was evident throughout decades of public and community involvement.

We are especially grateful for Jean’s enduring support for the military and veteran community, including her leadership in efforts to honor and remember those who served.

American Veterans Mission extends its sincere condolences to the Shine family, her friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives were touched by her service and generosity.

Jean Shine leaves behind a legacy of leadership, compassion, and service to others.

Rest in peace, Jean.

🎉 A new chapter begins for YVC of Copperas Cove!

On August 30, 2026, our youth leaders held their first official board meeting and began putting leadership into practice.

They are learning how to make decisions, understand financial stewardship, plan service projects, work as a team, and take greater responsibility for how they serve their community.

They are not just volunteering. They are learning to lead. ❤️

On August 30, 2026, YVC of Copperas Cove, hosted by American Veterans Mission, held its first official youth board meeting.

This was more than an organizational meeting. It was an opportunity for young leaders to begin practicing the responsibilities that come with serving on a board, including following an agenda, establishing a quorum, reviewing reports, discussing finances, considering future projects, and helping determine the direction of their organization.

Throughout the meeting, youth members were introduced to financial stewardship and fundraising, and discussed upcoming community service opportunities. These included activities with local parks and recreation programs, a Spooky Science Lab, gardening opportunities, holiday service projects, and a potential planter-box project to help youth develop practical, hands-on skills.

What makes this especially meaningful is that our young people are not simply being asked to volunteer. They are being given opportunities to lead, make decisions, take responsibility, and help shape how they serve their community.

American Veterans Mission is proud to host YVC of Copperas Cove and to support these young leaders as they grow in confidence, accountability, teamwork, and service.

This is only the beginning, and we look forward to seeing where they lead next. ❤️

On behalf of the entire team at American Veterans Mission, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to Bob Crouch for inviting our President & Executive Director, Dr. Anthony Martinez, to connect with such an incredible group of community leaders on August 21, 2026.

It was inspiring to see firsthand how deeply Rotary's commitment to "Service Above Self" aligns with our core mission at American Veterans Mission. Serving our local military families and supporting those who give so much for our nation is a passion that drives everything we do as an organization.

Gatherings like this are a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish when community-focused organizations unite to serve our Central Texas communities.

💫 Public service extends far beyond the council chamber. 🎊

On August 18, 2026, American Veterans Mission presented Certificates of Appreciation to the City of Copperas Cove - Municipal Government Mayor Pro Tem Vonya Hart and Councilman Dale Treadway during the city’s Regular Council Meeting.

AVM recognized both leaders for their volunteer work at the most recent Operation Homefront Back-to-School Brigade. The event provided free backpacks and school supplies to 400 military-connected children in Central Texas.

Mayor Pro Tem Hart and Councilman Treadway gave their time in direct service to local families. Their participation demonstrated that civic leadership includes showing up, working alongside community volunteers, and helping to meet Central Texans' needs. Their commitment to volunteerism reflects great credit upon them, the City of Copperas Cove - Municipal Government, and the Copperas Cove City Council.

We sincerely thank Mayor Pro Tem Vonya Hart and Councilman Dale Treadway for serving with American Veterans Mission. We value their example and hope to serve alongside them again soon.

AVM also thanks Mayor Dan Yancey and the members of the City of Copperas Cove - Municipal Government's City Council for the opportunity to publicly recognize these two community leaders.

🎉 What an inspiring welcome to the Youth Volunteer Corps family!

This morning (August 17, 2026), AVM Founder, President & Executive Director Dr. Anthony Martinez and Mrs. Janie A. Freed, AVM Director of Youth Programs, met virtually with the Youth Volunteer Corps national staff.

YVC Chief Executive Officer Tracy Hale and her team warmly welcomed AVM’s YVC of Copperas Cove as an official affiliate. They shared their experience, encouragement, and excitement for the work ahead.

We are deeply grateful for their support and commitment to helping young people discover the power of service.

Through YVC of Copperas Cove, AVM will create meaningful volunteer opportunities for youth across Central Texas. Young people will serve their communities, build leadership skills, form new relationships, and see the difference they can make.

Although our program carries the Copperas Cove name, we look forward to welcoming interested youth from communities throughout Central Texas.

This affiliation begins an exciting new chapter for AVM and the young people we serve. We are ready to learn, grow, and serve alongside the YVC network.
