Important Update for Veterans and Supporters
https://americanveteransmission.org/va-disability-ratings-rule-rescinded/

Today, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) formally rescinded the interim final rule titled Evaluative Rating: Impact of Medication. That rule, published on February 17, would have changed how disability ratings are calculated by factoring in medication effects. The rescission restores the prior standard and becomes effective immediately when published in the Federal Register on February 27, 2026.

We want to thank every veteran, advocate, Veterans Service Organization (VSO), and concerned citizen who voiced their support for protecting earned benefits and ensuring fair treatment for our nation’s veterans. Your engagement made a difference.

We will continue to follow this issue closely and share any updates that affect veterans and their families.

As page admin for American Veterans Mission, we want to share an important action recently taken by our Executive Director.

Anthony V. Martinez, Executive Director of American Veterans Mission and a U.S. Army veteran placed on the Permanent Disability Retirement List (PDRL), submitted a formal VA disability rule public comment opposing an interim final rule that was issued without prior public input.

The rule addresses how medication may be considered in veterans’ disability evaluations. As written, it raises concerns about long-standing protections for veterans and the transparency owed to those whose benefits may be affected.

We believe veterans deserve a clear voice when policies that impact their lives and benefits are proposed.

For transparency and accountability, the full public comment has been published on our website, along with an explanation of why this issue matters and how other veterans can participate in the public comment process.

The public comment period remains open until April 20, 2026. Veterans, caregivers, and advocates do not need legal expertise to comment. Clear, respectful statements based on lived experience are valid and important.

We encourage our community to read the post, stay informed, and consider submitting a public comment.

Protecting veterans’ earned benefits requires engagement and leadership.

On December 6, 2025, American Veterans Mission had the honor of standing alongside our community at the Operation Homefront Holiday Meals for Military Families event in . What unfolded that day was more than a service project. It was a powerful reminder of what happens when people choose to show up with purpose.

Local veterans, active duty service members, civilians, and youth volunteers worked side by side to serve our military families with dignity, warmth, and genuine care. Their collective effort turned a outreach into a memory these families will carry far beyond the season. This is what community looks like in action.

We are deeply grateful to Vonya Hart and Dale of the City Council for volunteering with us and personally engaging with our military families. Leadership matters most when it shows up and serves.

Special appreciation to Rebecca Tayamen, who traveled from , and Erin Burgy, who made the drive from to be part of this signature Operation Homefront event. Their willingness to go the extra mile reflects the heart behind this mission.

In addition to Operation Homefront’s national sponsors, we sincerely thank our outstanding local community partners who helped make this event possible:

• Girl Scouts of Central Texas Troops 20301 & 6300 (Janie Freed)
• Central Texas Youth Volunteer Corps (Janie Freed)
• Texas A&M University-Central Texas (Tetyana Quiles)
• RHF Central Texas (Breanna Adams)
• Navy Federal Credit Union - Killeen
• United Through Reading of Killeen (Janie Ann Freed)
• Walmart Killeen
• Dollar Tree of Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, and Lampasas
• Kohl's, (Eric Getz & Mike DelaCruz)

Every box packed, every smile shared, and every conversation held that day reflected one simple truth. When communities unite around service, everyone rises together.

We are proud to serve alongside those who believe in this mission and who prove through action that together, everyone truly achieves more. If you believe in this work, we invite you to walk alongside us next year .
