Happy Juneteenth! Celebrating resilience, freedom, and justice always! ❤️
Juneteenth is a story of freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of opportunity for all.
January 1, 1863: The Emancipation Proclamation declares enslaved people in Confederate states free.
June 19, 1865: Union troops arrive in Galveston, Texas, announcing freedom for enslaved people more than two years later. The first Juneteenth is born.
1997: The Juneteenth flag is created, symbolizing a new horizon and the ongoing promise of freedom.
June 17, 2021: Juneteenth becomes a federal holiday, recognizing its significance in our nation's history.
Today, we honor those who endured, those who celebrated, and those who continue the work of building a more just future. May we never stop expanding opportunity, dignity, and belonging for every child, family, and community.
