Consistent with this commitment, the DHS Office of the General Counsel and the FEMA Office of Chief Counsel have indefinitely suspended former Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of South Florida, her brother Edwin Cherfilus and multiple associates and affiliated entities following a federal indictment alleging they misappropriated approximately $5.7 million in disaster funds and used the proceeds for personal enrichment and illegal campaign contributions.

Former U.S. Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick surrendered her personal passport as part of her release conditions but was explicitly allowed to retain and use her congressional passport for official congressional duties. However, because she resigned from Congress, she was generally required to return the congressional passport to the House Clerk’s Office, as it can only be used for official government travel while actively holding office.
Personal Passport: Surrendered to federal authorities in late 2025 as a condition of her $60,000 bond for pending federal fraud and money laundering charges
Congressional Passport: Permitted initially for travel between Florida and Washington, D.C.. However, following her resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives on April 21, 2026, she lost active congressional privileges Source: CBS News

June 17th 2026 is World day to Combat Desertification and Drought
Drought, desertification and land degradation are growing global challenges, threatening lives and livelihoods around the world.

Every second, the equivalent of four football fields of healthy land is degraded — adding up to 100 million hectares each year.

At the same time, drought is among the most devastating natural disasters and could affect three-quarters of the world's population by 2050.

But it's not too late to act. Source:
