Laredo Auto Theft Task Force The exclusive objective of the Laredo Police Auto Theft Task Force is to deter, investigate and prosecute vehicle theft and burglary of vehicles.

The Laredo Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF) provides additional resources to enhance the capacity of all police agencies in Webb County in order to impact the crime of auto theft. The Task Force includes all jurisdictions in Webb County regardless of whether an agency is participating in the Task Force or not. The exclusive objective of the Laredo ATTF is to deter, investigate and prosecute the vehicl

e and theft and burglary of vehicles. The Laredo ATTF has established a proactive centralized auto theft investigation team that engages in a multi-disciplinary approach utilizing local, state and federal investigators. The team identifies local trends and patterns of vehicle theft through collective crime analysis. The team provides public education concerning burglary of a vehicle, motor vehicle theft and insurance fraud, and implement needed prevention and deterrence programs such as "Never unlocked. Nothing in view." We focus on increasing the number of arrests of vehicle theft suspects by particularly targeting the professional thieves and groups of individuals participating or involved in exporting stolen vehicles into Mexico.

🚨LPD ATTF RECOVERS 20 STOLEN CATALYTIC CONVERTERS🚨

The Laredo Police Department Auto Theft Task Force continues investigating a series of catalytic converter thefts that occurred across North Laredo during the evening hours of May 11, 2026.

Investigators recovered a total of 20 catalytic converters; 12 have already been returned to their rightful owners, while 8 remain in LPD custody.

On May 22, 2026, three juvenile males were detained in connection to the investigation. Charges include Burglary of Vehicle, Theft of Catalytic Converters, Unauthorized possession of Catalytic Converter, and Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity. This investigation remains ongoing as investigators continue reviewing additional reports and evidence that may be connected to this case.

The LPD Auto Theft Task Force reminds the public that catalytic converter theft is a serious felony offense in Texas. Juveniles are NOT exempt from criminal prosecution and can face serious legal consequences.

🚔Know the signs of possible catalytic converter theft:
• Loud engine noises when starting your vehicle
• Visible cuts underneath the vehicle near the exhaust system
• Vehicles sitting unusually low
• Suspicious persons crawling underneath parked vehicles
📞If you see suspicious activity, report it immediately to the Laredo Police Department at (956) 795-2800 for non-emergencies or 911 in an emergency.
