Getting Tough on Traffic!
We definitely know that the number-one complaint of many citizens is the traffic situation in Las Vegas. More cars, more crashes, more crazy drivers! Today, 11 officers graduated from LVMPD's Motor School, after a rigorous training program focused on learning the skills needed to join our elite team of motorbike officers. We salute all the instructors and wish a safe ride to all the new members of our traffic enforcement team!

Faces of the Future

Violent Crime is Down!
Since 2017, overall violent crime in Las Vegas is down 20%. Murders are down 40%. A big reason for this achievement has been the addition of hundreds of new officers. Last year alone, LVMPD added more than 350 new police and corrections officers to our crime-fighting family. And we're still hiring! This video highlights some of the bright new Faces of the Future at our department. Learn more about the opportunities currently available by visiting our recruiting website: www.protectthecity.com

New Furniture Gift!
Anyone who's lived in Las Vegas for a few years knows how generous our town can be, with individuals and businesses contributing lots of goods and services to our neediest residents. When our officers recently met a nice young family of four downtown, they noticed the family had NO furniture at all. We knew that Walker Furniture was having its annual furniture giveaway, and we recommended the family for assistance. Thank you Walker for helping, and letting us be part of today's exciting furniture delivery. Happy holidays to all!

Stolen Pickups!
LVMPD detectives are investigating a series of truck thefts, specifically, large pickup trucks like the Ford F250. We are asking that community members do their best to secure their vehicles. To help us fight this crime trend, please be mindful of the following common-sense tips:
-Keep your vehicle locked at all times
-Never leave your keys in the vehicle
-Install an anti-theft system if your vehicle doesn't have one
-Park in a well-lit area or garage if possible
-In the event your vehicle is stolen, immediately contact the police to file a stolen vehicle report

"Hunter" is Recovering!
After being stabbed multiple times by a suspect this past weekend, we're pleased to report that K9 Hunter is doing extremely well. He was lucky that the attacker's blade broke at some point during the assault when it struck the dog's collar, making it harder for the wounds to penetrate deeply. Hunter is a Belgian malinois who's been helping our officers catch criminals for 7 years. Working is the activity that makes him the happiest -- and if recovery continues going well, he'll be returning to service in a matter of weeks! Go Hunter Go!

K9 Recovering from Stabbing!
LVMPD police dog "Hunter" was attacked last night while taking a suspect into custody. He was stabbed twice in the neck. Hunter is expected to recover, following expert medical care at the animal hospital. Hunter was vitally important in bringing a SWAT standoff situation to an end in the 7300 block of S. Eastern last night, without the need for officers to use deadly force. Please join us in wishing Hunter a full and speedy recovery!!

The devastating damage caused to local families by drunk driving crashes is a very real problem. And today, students at Spring Valley High School got an up-close exposure to a simulated crash as part of LVMPD's Every 15-Minutes program. Students were shown the physical damage and taken through the grim work done by investigators, coroners, and legal personnel. The lesson is simple: DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE.
