Reminder: Lee Road Park Pickleball Courts Closed Saturday

The pickleball courts at Lee Road Park will be closed this Saturday, August 22, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for the Bike Safety Course and free helmet giveaway during Community Safety Day 2026.

Join us at Lee Road Park (6200 Lee Rd.) from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a day of community safety, first responders, demonstrations, and family activities, presented in partnership with the Lawrence Sunrise Kiwanis Club.

Event highlights include:
• 10:00 a.m. – Helicopter lands
• 11:15 a.m. – K9 Demonstration
• 11:45 a.m. – SWAT Demonstration
• 12:15 p.m. – Taser Demonstration
• 12:30 p.m. – Vehicle Extraction Demonstration
• 1:00 p.m. – City of Lawrence Fire Department vs. Lawrence Police Department Kickball Game
• 1:30 p.m. – Mayor’s Closing Remarks

Throughout the event, stop by the Lawrence Sunrise Kiwanis Bike Safety Course, meet local first responders, explore community resources, and enjoy free hot dogs while supplies last.

For more than 30 years, Sven has helped lead The Sharing Place, a Lawrence food pantry that provides food assistance to more than 60,000 neighbors each year.

He’s taking his commitment to fighting hunger all the way to Switzerland. From September 1–5, Sven will hike 33.7 miles from Spiez to Fribourg to raise $10,000 for The Sharing Place as part of Hunger Action Month.

The City of Lawrence Fire Department has been awarded a $70,000 Indiana Department of Homeland Security grant to strengthen emergency response capabilities and improve public safety.

The funding will provide a new EMS MedCart and thermal imaging cameras to help Lawrence firefighters respond more effectively to emergencies throughout our community.

Lee Road Closed Due to Flooding

Lee Road is currently closed between 63rd Street and Fall Creek Road due to flooding from Fall Creek following heavy rainfall. Road closed signs have been placed at Lee Road and 63rd Street and at Fall Creek Road.

City crews will monitor the area throughout the day. Once the water recedes and the road is safe, Lee Road will reopen. We will provide updates as conditions change.

We have another update on the timeline for the Oaklandon Road and 75th Street roundabout project.

The full closure of the intersection is now scheduled to begin August 25, 2026.

Sometimes, despite the best planning, construction projects don't go exactly as planned. Recent heavy rainfall has impacted the ongoing work to locate and relocate gas lines, requiring another adjustment to the schedule.

We know this project has had more schedule changes than anyone would have liked. We will continue to keep the community informed as the project moves forward.
